If you use the pulldown at the top of the Viewport, you can change the display mode to Wireframe, and it will render as a wireframe.

  • It's going to be either Cutout Opacity in Iray or, I think just Opacity in 3Delight. based on what you are seeing, your shader is IRay. Diffuse is not where you want this. For the wire frame trick you want the Opacity. For the wire over solid trick you want Bump.

Remember, you map should be mostly black with white line to work.

Which shader? In the iray Uber Base you want the colour in the Base colour and the alpha mask in Cutout Opacity.

  • I really dont get this I just wanna render the model as a wireframe, why is it so hard?

Set the Viewport to Wireframe Drawstyle (the sphere icon to the left of the group of controls at top-right) , in Render Settings select Viewport as the render engine (in the Editor or Advanced tab), and render.
