How to prevent program updates when rendering

Ok, i have been experiencing astronomically annoying lags when i'm rendering and some programs decide that now it seems to be perfect time to update. 

Asus live update is notorious in this, it informs me that "there is now updates" and show me finger by crashing daz. :(

So, how do i prevent this.

Change your settings to manual update only, but then you have the rmember yourself to check every now and then for updates and let them go

Ok.i think i'll do that. My friend also texted me "shut down your moden, noob" :D  Ok, that works also.

yes, if you cut the connection to the net, that an option as well

For a convenient way of quickly turning your connection on and off, without unpluging anything or messing with Windows settings, you can use "Net Disabler". It's a little free program that lets you enable or disable your network adapter with a couple of clicks. I've got a shortcut on my desktop and use it all the time. Just google it, it's available to download from a few places.
