Generation 3 Clothing packs

Hi all!

I'm thinking of using Michael 3 and Victoria 3 again to fill in some scenes I'm doing. Yet in order for that to work, I would need some clothing packs for these figures. Any idea where I can find some nice clothing bundles for these figures? In an ideal world I would like to be able to use them in the background for contemorary scenes and some medieval or ancient times scenes. I've noticed you can't filter on generation 3 anymore in the store here...

Thanks a lot,

Me

You can still filter; just click on the dropdown of "Figure" and type in the name you are looking for.

Personally I think Genesis characters make better background characters, since at base resolution they have less polygons than M3 and V3 (Genesis1-8 has around 20-25K polygons vs 73K for Generation 3). However you would need to reduce their skin resolutions to 2048x2048 (or lower), and strip out the unneeded additional maps (bump, specular etc), all of which is easy to do using scene-optimizer. That way you can use any clothing item available for the genesis figures for clothing. (although you might want to reduce their texture resolutions as well).

However if you do want to use M3 and V3, then the following is a good start for ancient/medieval scenes:

    https://www.daz3d.com/m3-tunic-pack

    https://www.daz3d.com/v3-tunic

Both are very cheap (1.99 for PC+) and there are numerous texture packs for both, many free on sharecg. The tunics do not have the detailed modeling of modern varieties, but for background chars this is of less importance.

BTW: You can filter on Michael 3 and Victoria 3 in the store, just type their names into the filter box

  • Thanks a lot!!! I was interested in M3 an V3 because I saw they have a "reduced resolution" version. Is that not cheaper on system recources than Genesis 1?

    Thanks a lot,

M3 RR and V3 RR are about 25K polygons, so around the same as a Genesis model at base. However you will struggle to find many morphs for M3 RR or V3 RR.

Note however that they will use a lot less RAM than Genesis due to lack of all the morph and additional rigging info on the newer figures. However as far as GPU VRAM is concerned M3/V3 RR will yield little savings unless you do not optimize the textures on the newer models (which will use far more resources if you do not, as they have 3-4 4Kx4K maps whilst the Gen 3 versions use 2 3Kx3K maps)

Either way you should not get too obsessed over the polygons, as the textures tend to take the vast majority of the resources.

well I can load 30 dressed haired generation 3 characters in DAZ studio but only a maximum of 10 later figures before I run out of RAM so they definately do use less resources

cannot fit those 30 dressed haired figures on my 980Ti though

Did you reduce the texture sizes at all of the later figures?

Also remember that some single outfits, even if they aren't a clothing pack, have texture packs that allow them to be turned into a bunch of different outfits.
