Kinda OT - Unable to post in forums, latest Firefox.

FSMCDesignsFSMCDesigns Posts: 12,852

Using Chrome to post this, but as of 2 days ago, I am no longer able to click inside a comment box on the forums using FF. I have tried doing it with a quote, no joy. I use an ad blocker, but permissions haven't changed and I even tried with global permissions, still nothing. I thought maybe I needed to update FF and saw there was a new update, installed it, still nothing. Any ideas on this?

Which version of FF were you using, and which are you using now?   just so I know not to update  to that version,  as my Firefox Quantum 61.0.1 (64-bit) is fine.

but be reassured, you are not alone, others have the same problem.   Apparenlty typing your comment in source code wroks.

I ran into this earlier and once I did a hard refresh on the page you are on, it allowed me to type and see the text.

...I'm still on an older version (59.0 I believe). I got tired of losing useful plug ins and add ons as well as having saved passwords disappear with each new update. Chrome does not play well with some sites and forums I frequent while I'll never ever use that "screen door" of a browser called IE again.

Nice to know it's not just me, LOL i am using the most current version, but it started on the version before that.

FF is my main browser. I use Chrome or Edge when I need to go to a site that is coded weird or poorly and won't load properly.

Yes apparently it is one of those bugs that comes and goes, affects some and not others, and so makes it a really fun job to track it down

    ...like with Java and Flash.

Yes, I was having this for a couple of days (this evening seems OK). As Chohole says, switching to Source view allowed typing (but was a pain having to add the <p> and </p> around paragraphs).

...that is why I don't like entering long posts from the phone. Even more of a bother since to insert those codes I have to toggle back and forth between several keypad sets. Think I'll stick with 59.0 in spite of all the nagging I get about updating.

They changed how plugins work; they no longer break when updates are installed.

I really wanted to like the new Firefox as I've been using it for YEARS and yea, I fought upgrading to the newest one as I didn't want to loose Tab Mix Plus or other beloved extensions but alas I gave in and hated the new one.  So I went on a bent and found Opera, the newest one, gives me a really nice experience.  Still miss some of my extensions but I'm happy enough with my online experience using it.

And out of nowhere I am able to post again with FF. Gotta love technology, LOL.

Waterfox is an alternative option.  Waterfox is based on FF56 and the old plugins work in it.

    https://www.waterfoxproject.org/en-US/

I am quite happy using it and being able to continue as I was with all my extentions and plugins that made Firefox great in the past.  I highly recommend it for anyone who much prefered the previous FF before they made that change over.

Waterfox differs from Firefox in a number of ways by:

    • Disabling Encrypted Media Extensions(EME)
    • Disabling Web Runtime
    • Removing Adobe DRM
    • Removing Pocket
    • Removing Telemetry
    • Removing data collection
    • Removing startup profiling
    • Allowing running of all 64-bit NPAPI plugins
    • Allowing running of unsigned extensions
    • Removing of Sponsored Tiles on New Tab Page
    • Addition of locale selector in about:preferences > General

...but with every update, more and more of the ones I count on no longer work. I miss Lazarus Recovery (great utility when the forums here go bonkers and crash or I automatically get logged out).

    ...does it remember saved passwords?
