Creating, saving poses and partials?

KNDKND Posts: 65

My primary pixel calculator broke down, so i had to break out my old hardware. I installed Daz3d on it but its too old to fully support all features, with that i am not interested in rendering anything at the moment. :(

Why not focus on some posing instead. :)

Even though i got the basics covered, i'm sure there is much to learn. So i guess in general interest for myself and others who click on this thread...  Know any tips and tricks? Pls share your wisdom. Know any good tutorials related to posing and saving them properly? Pls share some links, and thank you for participating.

Just save as a pose preset. When the dialog window comes up the figure in a selection tree will show up, just select down to the parts you want to save for partials.

Thanx, did both save a full pose and just a right hand partial.

Now i see the icons under Files>Saved Files, so i apply the pose to my default genesis 8 female wich i used to make the pose. Now it ask's me to turn off limits or keep them on. If i turn off limits in the pop-up it looks a bit funky, if i don't it looks like the original pose with the exception of the hands on wich i turned off the limits during posing. What does this tell me?

I always leave limits on at all times unless I have a spcial scene and just need to move a p-art an inch more for looks. This way I never have to second guess if a part is moving outside of it's natural range.

Don't turn off limits during pose creation, sounds like something to live by.

I also noticed a big difference between the pose on a Genesis 8 female and The Girl 8, do they have different limits?

I just realised the usage for turning "on" or "off" the coordinates when exporting a pose. Coordinates "off' for every pose you want to use everywhere and anywhere, coordinates "on" when exporting a pose that should place the character to a specific location.

How do i assign a pose to an character/object like a chair for example? Assuming i can place the chair anywhere i like, and it automatically places the character on the coordinates of the chair?

Do you mean a hierarchcial pose preset, posing the figure and placing the chair in the correct relative position? For that the chair would have to be parented to the figure, then File>Save As>Hierarchical Pose preset.

If you just want a placement pose, in the options dialogue deslect all and then just select the translations.

Place the chair at the center of the scene and then pose the figure in relation to the chair.  If the end user want so to move them, they can parent both to a null and move the null.  Hposes are meant for things like hand help props and if you dont have to use them, then dont.

Hierarchical means the prop ends up in the hierarchical tree of the character right? Like a gun is attached to either a left or right hand, while clothing is stacked directly below the hierarchy?

I'm going to assume people don't assign chairs to hips?

That's a good tip, work from center stage/zero point, then move around.

I guess i want a preset that retrieves the coordinates of the prop (trans/rot/scale) and then tells the figure to move to that location and apply a pose. If that is possible.

Also having a little troubling pinning, i select the bodypart, toggle translation and rotation, pick the active-pose-tool, then toggle pins, and then sometimes it is fixed and other times it seems to drag along? Am i missing something here?

The pinning with the Universal tool is for use with the Universal tool, via the gizmo or the parameter sliders or the posing discs at top-left of the viewport with a bone selected. The Active Pose tool, which is older, has its own pinning but that responds only to dragging to translate in the viewport, not to standard posing controls or the parameters.
