How do you do this in DS?

I know there is so much in DS that I still don't know how to use,..  I want to make a chair's legs longer. There must be a way to do this in DS, isn't there?

A deformer would be the simplest solution?

I would use a dForm to do it in DS, either just with the field to control the effect or using a weight map.

OK. How do you use dformers? I hope someone did a tutorial on YouTube because this not having a manual is really irritating...

I've used the Scale sliders before for making a chair a bit bigger to match a pose or character's leg length. Dial the Y scale up a bit and it will make the chair overall taller. If you're looking to create more of a high-chair look, with extra long legs and a normal seat, then maybe there's something under Edit->Geometry that could help.

Daz 3D's Posing, Shaping and Deforming video tutorial goes over the basics of using deformers.

Yes, I tried that first but the chair looks too long now. Geometry editor is another thing I need to learn.... I guess I have to search out tutorials. I WANT AN OFFICIAL MANUAL!!! @Daz_Steve Please make a comprehensive manual with screenshots with all the complicated and hidden aspects of DS, sell it on Amazon so there can be no pirating and you will make a fortune and attract new customers. Please!!!  laugh

The chair I'm using has no bones unfortunately and it looks like you need bones. I only watched a few seconds of it though, maybe it tells you later. Or maybe the geometry editor is better if I can find a tutorial on that? I should learn Hexagon or Blender I guess, but I just wanted to make a quick fix. I'm spoiled, I usually just try stuff and figure things out. I never opened a manual (which exist!) for Poser or Photoshop) but DS is so unintuitive! MANUAL! Please Daz!!!

Does the chair have seperate material zones for the legs and seat? Probably not, but maybe this will work. I'm thinking two instances of the chair, one scaled taller with the seat and back made invisible with Cutout Opacity. The second is at normal scale with the legs made invisible.

Or just use the tutorial JonnyRay suggested. :)

You don't need bones, just geometry for a dformer. Just select the chair when you add the dformer.

Yes! The chair has material zones! Your way seems a lot easier. But I still want a manual. Grumble grumble....

    Select chair

Click "Add d-former" (I don't have DS open, but i think there's a dformer tab)

in the scene tree tab, select the dformer field.  manipulate the field using the transition and scale sliders until only the legs are highlighted  (You can also change the dformer field using splines I think, but that gets more complicated)

select the dformer itself (again, use the scene tree tab)

    increase Y scale.

OK thanks everyone. For now I just used the double chair trick. Much quicker. I have to take the time some day to really search out tutorials and YouTube videos...

The first one is short and basic. The second one longer but more detailed. dformers are really useful and worth watching both vids.
