There are posts about some of the new female Asian characters, such as one that comepares YOYO with Misumi.
But I'd like to have a thread just on male characters, particularly Genesis 3 and 8.
For Genesis 3 I use the Lee 7 base and his add on characters, my favorites being Shen https://www.daz3d.com/shen-for-lee-7 and https://www.daz3d.com/kai-for-lee-7 For I stylized look I use Kenji and blend in the Lee characters. I like the skin texture that came with Jun https://www.daz3d.com/fw-jun-hd-for-genesis-3-male
For Genesis 8 there seems to be an Asian male drought. Has anyone found some great options, realistic and stylized?

I dont have a favorite, Male characters are scharse as it is, asian males even more so. But looking at the ones you posted Shen doesn't look half bad.
For Genesis 8 there's an ANYTHING male drought.
Lee 6 morph, Lee 7 textures, with honourable mention for Tokyo Knight (demoted only because he's M4).
I still think Ryuu is really great and renders well. Probably followed by Lee 7. https://www.daz3d.com/ryuu-for-m5
I don't own all that much East Asian content, but I think Lee 6 and Lee 7 are both very impressive skins and sculpts. Lee 7 resembles a young Jackie Chan, imo. I also like the People of Earth: Asia face morphs for G3M, especially Chanarong. I also like Isamu for G3M, although it's debatable what ethnicity he looks most like. My favorite is probably Ahmad, who's more South Asian than East Asian.
Wish chevybabe25 didn't hate G8 so much and do a male East Indian along the lines of G3F's Draupadi *sigh*

Before Darius came out there were a few black men options for G8M by PAs as add-ons for Michael. https://www.daz3d.com/ej-leroy-and-buddy-for-genesis-8-male then when Darius came out you had him plus about 4 different add-ons. Then months later we got https://www.daz3d.com/kagiso-for-genesis-8-male and a few more wonderful Black/African options. But still no more Asian male characters? While G8F is spoiled for choice on either realistic or stylized Asian characters, the only one I've been able to find for G8M is https://www.daz3d.com/ej-hiroshi-and-masao-for-genesis-8-male It always seems to be on sale when I don't have money for it.
For a stylized look I've been using Sasuke https://www.daz3d.com/sasuke-for-sakura-8 blended with Dao https://www.daz3d.com/dao-for-genesis-8-female and playing with some of Fuseling's Mix and Match Shapes for Sakura, and Aiko. While I like the face, the body is limiting and I'd love to be able to blend masculine head shapes in. I was hoping to ferrit out some more options I'd missed.
There are some great options out there for the guys, but still a few niches left neglected. I sometimes wonder if PAs have more fun or are more confident when making their female characters.
I actually am not sure why we continue to get new bases. Is there a technical reason we still need base figures beyond the extreme shapes? I can understand something large or monstrous but it seems that some pas are talented enough to give us pretty unique figures such as a petite female...without needing Stephanie 8?

I don't know about them being necessary, or even if they make it easier for PAs who then do make add-ons for specific base figures. But I think the bundles and excitement around the release of base figures are part of Daz marketing stratagy. Even though I prefer a lot of PA characters, I've been buying a lot of the bundles with this generation and picking up bundles from previous releases like crazy the last year. I usually like the shapes of the base figures, but not their skin textures so will use the PA characters for their textures and blending with the base figures. If it makes getting great content cheaper on a regular basis I'm OK with them having them.
I agree, and Draupadi is amazing
I haven't found one I like yet, or the ones I like I can't afford yet. So I made my own. I started with G3F Hye for Mei Lin, then I opened the texture in Gimp and added some more eyebrow. The rest is the cross-figure morph and some face adjustments. I was aming for classic East Asian; Korean, Japanese, or maybe Chinese.
Chevybabe25 showed some pics of a male called "Arjun" around the time Draupadi was submitted to Daz or when she was about to come. I don't know whether Daz turned Arjun down or the PA ran into technical difficulties or what.
You have to create your own as official daz character creators are committed towards mostly whites as the primary; other "minorities" are like most in american media; secondary as a way to keep themselves from being accused of being too exclusionary, I'm afraid the seventh generation was a rare burst of diversity! It's up to the magnificence of the PAs to fill in that gap, which they have done quite well!
Plus, you have to consider that they're relying on sales as the motivation and like it or not, the tech world is still woefully behind!

Im trying desperately to get over my hate of g8 :0) I 've been working on yet another character for her ( no.12 folder in my runtime for g8) - this one I actually like. Don't get too excited though until something actually makes it to the showcase threads.
I really do wish Arjuna turned out the way I wanted him to... I just wasn't feeling the love for him. I worked on him for a few more weeks and sent him packing to the recycling bin. Boys in general just seem way too hard for me.
I hear you on that although for me it was kind of the reverse; back when I was doing dialspun character morphs for V4 and M4, I enjoyed doing the males a lot more, and found the females kind of fiddly and tedious.
Genesis 8? Oni are Japanese, right?! So there's totally the best one.
SickleYield's Faces of Asia is always a good thing to start from, plus a G3M skin applied to the G8M+Faces of Asia.
