JP Doris Curtain - How to use the different colors/textures? (Solved!)

This is a really beautiful product! I love all the different ways the curtain can be morphed and changed to make each render unique.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to add the different colors and patterns to the curtain.

In what order to I need to choose the colour - texture - gradients and so on to change the patterns so it looks as pretty as it does in the sample renders on the product page?

Thank you for any help!

It does list Shader presets as well as Materials - if the content type flash at top-right of the thumbnail says Shader then you would need to have the curtain and the surface on the curtain selected, for example by clicking with the Surface Selection tool.

    Hey Pipefox,

thank you for the kind words. Using the different colors and textures is pretty easy. Load the curtain prop, choose one of the 40 morphs to have the shape you want to use. With the Curtain Prop selected you can apply now one of the gradient based textures or one of the lace based textures or for a first start I would suggest one of the Sample Material files for the colors I used in the promo images. Those are located one folder beneath the Curtain and Poses folder.

In general - for Material Presets you have to select the curtain prop only, for Shader Presets (which are also included) you have to select the curtain prop AND the Surfaces in Surface Tab you want to apply the shader to.

For the gradient based textures - you have the option to change the direction of the color gradients. Select all surfaces in the surace tab and use the utility pose included in the Shaders folder.

For the lace based textures - the base material is white, choose one of the 31 different laces - don't forget to adjust the vertical and horizontal tiling of the lace when you use one of the longer or wider curtain morphs. It's very easy to preview even without the Iray preview. In addition you have lace color folder. With these presets you can change the basic white appearance of the lace with different color options for Base & Top Coat, Glossy and Translucency. Those are shader presets, so you need to have the Surfaces seleced in Surface Tab for the presets to work properly. And the adjustments you can only see in the Iray preview.

I suggest to have at least one side light (spot light ot whatever) in the scene beside your main light source, only then you have a very nice and colorful outcome.

Also note the mouseover tips I included in the textures and shader folders!

Almost forgot: you can also combine gradient and lace based textures, because the curtain has a front side and an independent back side. You can use a gradient based texture for the backside and a lace preset for the front side. One sample preset for exactly this I have included. The only thing you would have to do manually is to put the lace texture into the Cutout Opacity channel for all 4 front side surface zones - and voila - lace and gradient combined. :)
