How to find Art commissions

I was wondering how some people find commissions for art projects, particularly doing illustrations for books, covers, or music covers.
What do you usually charge?
I have a deviantart account I've been using since 2004, but was thinking about expanding to use other social media that will let me promote my art to bring in commissions. Any suggestions would be great.

I see a lot of people on deviant doing commission work. That’s about it though. Maybe circulate in areas where people like art In your particular style and you might pick up requests.
Renderosity has an art store, where you can offer art for sale. Vendors offer both photography and rendered pieces, and I'd guess 'hand painted' pieces as well.
Not sure how many people drop by Rendo looking for people to do art commissions, but it's a social media channel of sorts.
Plus, apparenlty you get 'rewards points' for uploading products, or just art. It translates to a miniscule amount, but hey, slowly earning points towards gift certificates good...
As for other channels to generate interest in commissions, I'm sure others will have other suggestions. You already mentioned DeviantArt, which is one of the biggies of course.
Patreon is set up as a place for artists to get exposure of course, and you could set up a 'pledge' system to get people to support your artistic endeavors, but of course there are a LOT of other artists on Patreon, so getting noticed could be a challenge...
Got a link to your DA page?
I used to get commissions often, but then I started working with a publisher and then another and now I really don't have time for them unfortunately.. Between 2D imagery and 3d modeling work in game communities if 3d income was consistant, which it isn't, I'd quite my day job, LOL.
Yep, deviantart.com/e-j-works I will edt the post at top to include it. Thanks.
Cool, hopefully that will bring in some commission work for you.
congrats on the college degree, what is your field?
American Sign Language. I have to pass a certification test and register with my state to start working as an ASL-English interpreter. I'd been working at my college for the last 4 years while completing my degree, but it requires class enrollment to continue. No more homework, yay! No more paydays, AH!!!! :)
Thanks for asking.
I once took some pictures when the place I was working for send me to Washington, DC that a professional photography shop wanted copies of but I would only agree if they printed me 8"x10" copies of the photos they wanted for themselves, LOL, because I could only afford 4"x6" personally and they agreed. So don't assume that your work has no commercial artistic value.
Personally though, I have never tried to get a commission via rendering with DAZ Studio or any other art although I have paid $35, $100, and $200 on three different occasions for commissioned art work although all three of those did not involve DAZ Studio in anyway. I wouldn't have even asked those artists to do the commisions had they not stated that they actually do commisions so the way I see it you need to
1) State you do commissions
2) Post multiple examples art of yours that might get a viewer to ask you to do a commissioned art work for them.
The 3 artists I commissioned to do work for me, none of them were on Deviant Art so Deviant Art isn't your only option. One had a commercial site with their own domain, the other had a personal domain with their own portfolio but I noticed them on YouTube, and the third was only on a free art site (but a commercial business - I don't know how they make there money if any) with their own personal subdomain on that art site.
