Hello, I am still a bit new to using DS and have a question about lighting in Daz Studio.
When I load preset lights, all the lights load on to the floor piled on top of each other, They are not positioned.
Is there a setting somewhere I have not found that you can check so that the lights position themselves when you load them,
or do you always have to position them yourself? I have been using Poser for so long I have become "spoiled" because the light sets
are always positioned.Any guidence would be greatly appreciated!

Preset lights as in, a bought preset, or the ones that come with DAZ STudio?
The latter can be positioned pretty simply:
When you load them, a wondow pops up. It asks you id you want to load at default position (that's the floor one) or copy the viewport. If you select the viewport it will load in whatever angle and position the viewport is aimed at your scene.
Hi Bee,
Thank you so much! See, I always see when I add a light a window pops up asking me what to name the light so I always check OK to the default name.
I did not look at it closely enough I guess..my fault totally!
With the preset lights that I buy from vendors, still they load on the ground.
Is there a place I can find a setting for them to load to where they are meant to be positioned?
Thank you for your help!!
Poser light sets won't work - they load lights, but not in a helpful manner (and in some cases, such as IBL, they don't load the right kind of light anyway).
Distant lights will be a pile on the floor more often than not - their position doesn't mater, just the directioj in which they point.
Hi Richard, Thank you for your help. No I am not using Poser lights in DS, I am using lights that I bought for DS. When I load them, they pile onto the floor under the figure.
I was just wondering if there is a setting within DS that will allow the lights to position themselves when I load them.
I was just referencing Poser because when I used light sets in Poser, they didnt load onto the floor, they always postioned themselves.
Please be patient with me, I am still trying to learn lighting in DS and am having some difficulty with it.
Thanks for trying to help! :)
Can you link to the sets you are using, it sounds like it's distant lights that are being used, those tend to load on the floor as it is only the rotation direction of them that matters.
Also are you rendering in Iray or 3dl; lights are different for each render engine.
Nothing but patience here, no worries. So what light sets did you buy as that might help in figuring out why they load as they do.
One things about DS is is has several ways to do the same things which can be frustrating in itself, LOL. Many of the lights in DS also use the camera system, meaning you can select the light and then see thru it's lense for placement. If you have a light that you like the properties of and want to replicate it, then make sure it is selected when you create a new light of the same type and in the dialouge window, it gives you the option to copy the selected light which I find very useful.
As for loading, a default light will always load to the defaul floor position in my experience unless you have a camera or other light selected and you choose another option other than defaul in the dialouge box.
