When an item won't take a shader....

Anyone ever have this happen? An item simply won't take any shader you apply to it?

Usually this occurs if the item hasn't been uved

    Greetings,

So this happens in a few instances, but the most important thing to keep in mind is whether the item has the same shader base as the shader you're trying to apply.

Most commonly when this happens to me, it's because I'm trying to apply an Iray shader to an object with a 3Delight shader base.  I have to pull up the 'DAZ Iray Uber' shader, which does the actual conversion...then apply the Iray shader to it.

There are also some rare objects which have VERY custom shaders (like with their own MDL, etc.) done by someone with deeper knowledge of Iray...but the custom shader they've built for it isn't compatible with the normal shaders, so they don't apply.  Often applying the DAZ Iray Uber shader will help, but sometimes even that doesn't work, at which point I usually either give up on the object or export it as an OBJ and re-import it, and assign my own textures to it.

It was the base shader. I took the object and applied a generic base and then applied the shader I wanted.

Wow, I just learned yet another thing I never knew. Thanks,...ugh sometimes!
