Install location issue SOLVED....maybe?

After struggling with the issue of installing my files, assets and software I think I finally have found my solution.

I am posting the image in case anyone else has an issue like this and for peer review.

I think this works.

Thanks.

Well, you shouldn't have D:/3D MODELS/ and sub-folders of D:/3D MODELS/ selected (under Daz Studio Formats) as that is very likely to cause issues in future.

Not good. The three directories under D:\3D MODELS are considered "nested directories" and cause problems. If you have anything actually in the 3D MODELS directory you should create an additional sub-directory and move the content to it. You also need to add these directories under Poser Formats, as a very large number of items in the store end up in a Poser-format runtime.

This is what my system looks like. All Daz content goes into gen5 by DIM install; 3rd-party is for content from other sources, and my-data is where I save anything I create. Everything is on the E: drive under s4stuff.

3D Models is the "scenes" directory. No assets are there, only my finished work.I import the assets there. Combine them pose them and save them as indpendant scenes.

All the DAZ assets are in the other directories.

Just so I am clear on what we are talking about. When you refer to content, I am guessing your speaking of the DAZ content from the site.

It doesn't matter whether you actually use the 3D MODELS for installing cntent - if you have it and its sub-folders set as content diectories then when saving something that refers to a file in one of the sub-folders DS won't know whether to use /Data/Author/Product/item.dsf or /3D MODEL/Data/Author/Product/Item.dsf as the relative path. If you don't have anything installed to 3D MODEL just remove it as a content directory, but be prepared to have to fix files saved while it was in use.

I have been using this Directory for years and have not once had an issue. The "Content" saved there scenes created from the DAZ content.

    Thanks for the advice.

For the record this is the reason I created the 'mydata' directory. Scenes, scene subsets, presets, anything else I create  goes there.
