random dislocation of parented items

the first picture shows Max with his driver cap and its parented GPS astrolobe thingie that he's worn in a hundred pictures

the picture was rendered earlier today...

the second one was done a little later and I noticed something up in the middle and realized it was the still parented item ... and the figure hadn't been moved anyway
took about 20 minutes to maneuver it back, because naturally it's not aligned with the movement axises .. and it's parented to the hat which is parented to the figure, which is parented to the figure group

it's the little blob center between the torches and a little above them.
