As part of Steam's summer sale, Substance Painter 2018 is on sale for $98.99 (34% off its normal price) and the suite of products (Painter, B2M and Designer) is on sale for $197.97 (51% off). The sale ends early on July 5th.
Just a heads up...

thanks, if only I didn't have yearly car taxes due this month.
Thanks for the heads up. I may be able to swing it.
It's permanent. They do have a subscription plan though that you pay about $20 a month for a year & then a $49 fee at the end of the sub for a permanent license.
It was available at 84% off last year as upgrade for existing buyers at Steam. This year the indiviual upgrade costs for SP 2018 and SD 2018 are discounted at 66% for existing buyers at Steam. They are one of the very few sellers who allow conversion of Steam bought licenses to standalone licenses.
Is there a difference to getting a program from Steam, versus buying it from the software company themselves?
Hi would anyone recommed buying the indie suite or just sub Painter alone, what about the subscription package with the Source library is it worth it.I would be using this for textureing Daz and Zbrush models.Any help would be welcome.
The scenario varies from company-to-company. In case of Allegorithmic, you can convert Steam bought licenses to standalone licenses at the Allegorithmic website at no additional cost. Once you convert the license, you can use either the steam version or the standalone version. Read the license FAQ at: https://steamcommunity.com/app/746470/discussions/0/1726450077633498247/
Note that the maintenance update schedule may differ based on where you have installed the software from. In case of Substance Designer 6 the maintence was terminated at Steam once SD 2018 was launched. Users were advised to sync their licenses to allegortihmic and install the latest version (2018) from there for the duration of the maintenace period (one year from purchase).
Also, note that presently (as of this writing), you may face issues with sync of your Steam bought license and Allegorithmic account in case of SD 2018, however, this could be a temporary issue.
I decided to give Susbstance Painter a try. After I installed it and ran it for the first time, it said that my TDR value was set too low. It provided some instructions on how to edit the registry. According to the instructions, I need to add two keys to the Graphics drivers folder. These are DWORD's that I am suppose to add. I see that there is a QWORD too, for 64. I am running 64 bit. The instructions don't say anything about 32-bit or 64-bit.
So...just wondering...
1. Did you need to do this?
2. And is DWORD ok?
Yes - I needed to do this too. I am running 64-bit. I followed the instructions at the Allegorithmic website and added TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay as DWORD each set to 60. Rebooted and no more warning message. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this information... And sorry to respond so late.
...I noticed that Allegrorithmic also offers Substance Designer, which is more geared towards designing custom textures (particularly PBR materials) rather than 3D painting. This sounds more as if it would be more useful for someone like myself who would be creating custom textures and materials for models as it is material authoring software .
Because of an arthritis and an unsteady unsteady hand, digital painting is a very difficult process for me, where as taking photo elements and building them into textures (while difficult in it's own right) would not be as physically taxing.
Also interesting that is is the same price as Substance Painter
Because of an arthritis and an unsteady unsteady hand
What about those programs that smooth out your lines and have a steadying-hand feature? Never looked into those?
...It is primarily my wrist and hand. My right hand is nearly crippled (I can only use one finger when typing). Digital painting requires a good amount of accuracy and when I start feeling a lot of stiffness and pain after a short while, that goes out the window. Short of going back to NSAIDS (and those don't always work all the time) there is little I can do to completely alleviate the chronic pain when it flares up. This is why I do very little in post other than applying filters, effects, overlays, and text.
This is also why Substance Designer appeals to me more as it lets me use photo and image resources to develop materials and modify them with parameter inputs.
.
Thanks for pointing out this steam sale I did not know about the discounts sale I grabbed myself a copy of Substance painter and quite a few games, only thing now I will be to busy playing games to learn Substance
Glad it worked out for you, @SPACECHIMP. Have fun!
