Help with a new computer

I am setting up my new computer. I have downloaded and installed DAZ Studio - so far that is about all I have downloaded
I have set up my F Drive in the DS preferences so DS should see my DS content there both in a Content folder and a My Library folder.
I am assuming I should not have to set up the runtimes as DS Studio folders in the preferences tab?
I can load up Genesis 8 which is on that drive, but when I go to load a peice of clothing or a hair it comes in as blocks which I am assuming means that it is not looking at the data files on the F Drive
I have put my old items in folders I would have used with DS9
C:\Users\Beatrice\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
C:\Users\Beatrice\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio 3\Content
But I am fairly sure DS is not seeing either of those folders either as everything I have is showing in the smart content as downloadable and not on my computer
Is there something else I should be doing to make DS read all the folders I set up in the preferences?

If you sill have old computer; you need to copy some files accress.
under users, your name roaming (C:\Users\Beatrice\AppData\Roaming); the folder Daz 3D needs copying (perhaps selectively copying), so copy the existing Studio folder first - just incase. You could just start with Studio4 and Install Manager sub-folders, and see how that goes.
The other folder that needs copying i Users public docs Daz; (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Daz 3d); this holds all the Install Manager files; this is the one (iirc) that is telling you to re-download. I don't use and have zero interest in Smart crap so can't help you there.
You will also need to manually update the registry with Studio settings, although I believe there is a tool for that somewhere; the safer way (potentially much safer) is to add the folders via Studio. I export them as a .reg file, but the potential for disaster when messing with the registry if you've never done it is a serious concern.
Note: Before you copy accross any folders and files; BACKUP existing folders. A simple copy and paste should suffice.
Well, that is depressing, because I have no access to the old computer now as it has died a death - but I am sure that when I copied over items from my previous computer to that it was only the two documnets folders that I had to carry over - I only had DS 4.9 on the old computer
I'm not aware of a way of scanning downloaded files to create what is required, would be a useful script.
Does the hard drive still work in the old computer? If so, remove it and either install in the new computer or place it in an enclosure; something like: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wavlink-Enclosure-ⅢExternal-Adapter-Supports/dp/B078X7SCPL/ref=sr_1_11_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1529840389&sr=8-11-spons&keywords=hard+drive+enclosure&psc=1
I don't use that one; the example I have included is so you know what to look for. USB3 is faster, but any hard drive enclosure that takes whatever size of driver yours is, and plugs in via USB is the simplest; mechanical (and larger) hard drives usually require a separate power supply; 2.5 inch for SSDs don't as a rule.
The My Daz 3D Library is the default for Install Manager, so if you weren't using that then (or had changed its install location) the other folders would have been all you needed.
No the hard drive is not working at all :(
But what I don't understand is why the files on my portable F Drive don't work either.
Are the assets installed on the F: drive, or only the saved scenes pointing back to the assets?
The assets. I download the zip file from DAZ unzip it and then add the folder to the contents folder on the F Drive.
The two folders on my C drive held all the files that I downloaded before DAZ went to zip files
If you are doing manual unzips, make sure that you are putting the Data and Runtime etc. folders directly in the content directory, not keeping them in the "Content" folder from the zip.
Yes, I have been doing that Richard. Some of my F Drive assets seem to be working now but not all of them
Could you post some examples - items that fail to load (are you getting an error for those), and where the files are on disc.
