I have hair from V3 up to Genesis 2 Female.
Thanks!

If you use the "scale and parent" methold (where you use scaling and native morphs of the hair to adjust it to fit the character's head and then parent it without using "fit to") ... any, unless you're doing aliens or something.
Autofit can work, but if there are extra bones (such as with many braided and ponytail styles) they'll be lost. Genesis 8 has autofit clones for Genesis, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3, and you can autofit V4 to Genesis 1 and then re-fit to Genesis 8.
Excellent information! To autofit V4 hair to Genesis 1, I assume I just load a Genesis 1 figure and autofit whatever V4 hair I want - then how do I re-fit it to Genesis 8? Do I have to save the refit for Genesis 1 somehow?
Thanks!
Isn't there a skull cap mesh somewhere for Gen4 already prefit to suceeding Genesis characters? Then you could fit the Gen4 hair to the skull cap & not loose the bones. Or would that not work?
A trick I like to use is to turn down opacity to zero for everthing but the scalp (assuming they kept the scalp a seperate texture zone, which it usually is). that makes it a lot easier to scale it juussst right. Then when the scalp is a perfect fit you can go ahead and turn the rest of the textures back up to visible.
So once you have got, say, a V4 hair in place and scaled juusst right, what would you save it as so that you can use it again on G3/G8? A wearable preset or a figure/prop asset?
And make sure you parent the hair to the HEAD, not to G8 generally, or it won't move with the figure.
grinch2901 - your method is a really good one for fitting. Also, many V4 hair figures don't load with materials. Keep them this way until you have posed her - it makes it so much easier to see where the hair is flowing.
With Iray, some of the old hair figures show their age and their geometry becomes obvious. If you are willing to do a little brushing in post work, you can cover that up.
Would smoothing help with the geometry issue?
You don't have to save (though I do - Save as: Support asset: Figure or prop, just in case something goes wrong) just "fit to" Genesis, then Fit to Genesis 8
