Full Stop: Age of Armor's Advanced Lights do not function in 4.10 at all. Such a critical component of my tools I will not work without.

Thank you, all, for the help and advice.

I still bounce between Genesis generations regularly.  While I do prefer the additonal posing nodes in Genesis 3 and 8 (thinking torso and neck here), the one thing I never did understand is why we have arm/thigh bend and arm/high twist as separate nodes.  As far as I can tell, they both do exactly the same thing/both have bend, twist, and side to side sliders.  I guess I could understand if one twists from the 'top' of the bone and the other twisted from the bottom, but I'm not seeing any difference.  This seems like extra nodes for no gain to me.

I will say that working with V3/V4 era figures seems harder than working with Genesis era figures, so I tend to use pre-Genesis figures sparingly.   For celeb lookalikes, etc. and new Poser figures, yeah I'm still buying V4 figures every now and then.

From the screenshot it looks like you have applied the UVs without first running the Prepare script which loads the geografts and recalibrates the surfaces, among other things.  A one-click solution is not possible, I'm afraid.

It was, when using legacy uv with genesis/G2 I do not recall using a script, just altering the surface options. I posted as I was getting ready to leave and had to stop playing in DAZ.

Will do. I saw yoor helpful post in Nuts/Bolts thread as well (which I opened since I figured that was a tech matter for DAZ studio and not Genesis 8 related at all).

    Thank you very much.

    Short answer:
Due to the change made in G3 and G8 it's not possible anymore to just provide alternante UVs like for G1 or G2.

    Long answer:
Genesis and G2 had the same material zones as V4 and used the same number of texture files, with "texture change" roughly at the same place. G3 and G8 don't, they use UDIM mapping, have very different material zones, and the mesh is quite different too.
To use previous generation textures in G3 you would need alternate UVs for G3 mesh, of course, but that would not be enough: due to how the texture are split, if you just did that you would end up with a few material zones where you would need to use parts of 2 texture files to cover the zone, which wouldn't work. So you also need to redefine material zones so each zone uses only one texture file.
Problem is, G3 mesh doesn't have edge loops at the right place for that. That's why Cayman Studio's products include geografts: they add the needed polygons and material boundaries, and alternate UVs for "G3 meshh with geografts" to use the textures.

Genesis 8 is terrible, in terms of parity. Its not worth investing in, if you do mainly stylized art. Unless you do almost nothing but females.

Noob question -- I tried to put genesis clothing and a toon clothing item on genesis 8, it did not fit and did not follow the pose. is there a workaround/? I was under the impression that gen 8 could accomodate all previous clothes and props... doesn't seem to be true

I have not moved to G8 yet. I still work with G2 with gene pools from Generation3 and Genesis 3. I can tell you, I will eventually move to G8. The commecial products I've seen with G8 are a huge improvement in the facial features over previous generations. However, the move is just not feasible for me money wise at this time..

I agree that there are some high quality characters coming out for G8 and I only wish it were possible to transfer some of those characteristics between generations. However, even if the process discussed in threads in this forum for transferring morphs between G3 and G8 (and vice-versa) is effective, I believe that the high quality comes, in part, from the HD sculpting on these new models and that HD is not transferrable. At least that is my understanding, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are nervous about upgrading Daz, you can install the 4.10 beta and run it safely along side 4.7. 3dl is still there, and mostly unchanged.

Really? It does not overwrite the old version? I will try that then.

It overwrites old beta versions; beta and release run side by side.

Hi, I am using Genesis 2 still because I do not want to use Iray. I like my 3Delight and hope to stay that way.

But I noticed that Genesis 8 can uses Materials from Genesis 2. Is this practical?

I have a lot of tools I use on my Poses and Shapes, such as; FM Muscle Flexing, Discobob & Zev's Fit Control, Ideal Beauty, and Zev's various Body Controls. Would I need tools like that, and are they available for the Genesis 8? I also used a tool to get V4/M4 and Genesis shapes for Genesis 2. Is there a com parable tool to get Genesis 2 shapes in Genesis 8?

Thank you, in advance for taking the time. :)
