Giving G3F a new life: Morphing G8 into G3.
Over time, I amassed a large amount of clothes and shoes for G3F. Not to mention poses, expressions, etc. However, sometimes I'm interested in a G8F character, but I do not want to fight and try to adjust the clothes in my collection. It's even sometimes difficult for heeled shoes.
Of course, a simple solution would be to convert an entire G8F character to G3F. However, due to some structural differences (or other things I do not fully understand), and depending on the method used, the conversion of G8F to G3F sometimes gives unpredictable results. By the way, most tutorials show how to convert G3F to G8F, and not the other way around ...
My idea then is to transfer the head only from G8F to G3F. Usually, the specificity of a character resides mostly in the head. Due to the vast amount of parameters involved in each face’s components (nose, mouth, eyes, lips, ears, etc), the face details and subtleties are not easily reproduced. As for the body, it is rather easy to reproduce using the basic tools.
Here is my methodology:
What you need: G3F basic character, G8F basic character, and the morph that transforms G8F into the target character (the one to reproduce).
Load G3F base character. In Mesh Resolution, put Resolution at Base and SubDLevel at 0.
Export G3F as .obj. (Uncheck Write Group)
Delete G3F and import G3F.obj.
Load G8F base character.
Start the Transfer Utility (TU). Use G8F as source and G3F.obj as target. Default on both sides.
After the transfer, unparent G3F.
Select G8F and activate the head morph. If everything went well, G3F should also adopt the desired new face.
Hide G8F (don’t detete it!).
Export the morphed G3F to .obj. (G3F_2.obj)
Start a new scene, and load G3F base character.
Now, by using Morph Loader Pro and choosing the G3F_2.obj you just created, you should be able to create a single dial morph slider. The procedure to do so is widely covered and easily available on the net.
Voilà!
As said previously, I can easily match the original body of G8F just by using dial morphs.
Please make comments if a step is missing, wrong, or not necessary.

This thread interests me a great deal. Thxs for posting it. ...but my wants go back even farther, but involve the desire to transfer just the latest in skin textures backwards all the way to V4. I find the head morphs of V4 still the most attractive, but acknowledge many of the skin textures are a bit 'toony' compared to the realism of the latest Gen's. So I'm wondering, did you also try going backwards in the skin texture from G8..? ...and if so, did you try any technique that might make the transfer to V4? I found this product in the catalogue, but the instructions are scant, and I'd really like to hear from someone who has actually succeeded in doing this from the skin textures of G3 and G8 back to V4. The product is:
UTC Victoria 4 [Face Only] Plugin by 3DUniverse
and the link is: [ https://www.daz3d.com/utc-victoria-4-face-only-plugin ]
Unfortunatley, I 've never used V4, as G3 was already available when I begun doing CG.
Following the same objective exposed in my tread, yes, I sometimes 'fit' a G8F skin and texture on G3F. So far, I had 100% success in doing it.
Having both G3F an G8F characters loaded, first select G8F.
Using the surface selector, go to Surface tab, select Surfaces, right click and choose Copy Selected Surface(s).
Now, select G3F, follow the same procedure and Paste to Selected Surface(s).
The only precaution is with the eyelashes that should be done separately.
