How do you paint an object?

I was wondering how you paint a primitive object like a cube?  Or any other?

You don't paint it, unless you use UV Painter.

But you can give it a UV map in Blender or Hexagon, and then create your texture in Photoshop/Gimp on the base of that UV map.

If you have a plain, mapless  colour, you can use the surface that comes with the primitive.

Simple way, select primitive in Scene tab > Surface tab > Diffuse color > click on color slot 255, 255, 255 (default), select color of choice.

and if you do want to then paint on that map in 3D you can also use Blender, Sculptris, the Windows 10 3D paint program if you have WinX all for free.
