Problems with Kellyn

Hya. I got Kellyn a few weeks ago, and initially it worked fine, but since I upgraded my HD, although it shows in the menu, it just isn't available. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, even tried a manual install, but nothing works. the files are all there but nothing is useable.  I could really use some help in solving this.

Thanks in advance. :)

Has changing your HD changed the drive letter assigned to the drive with your content?

  • Initially I was storing my content on another drive, but I upgraded so I could put everything in one basket. I did change the drive letters in the content manager. It is a possible culprit, but I can't see that I've missed anything.

What are your current settings in the Content Directory Manager in DS and in the Installation tab of DIM's preferences? Where are the files?

  • DIM's preferences... Now that is something I didn't check.

    No joy.

    Installation via the log: Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_50271\people\genesis 8 female\characters

The error message I get is: "An error occurred while reading the file, see the log file for more details"

Edit: Other folders within "Cloud" seem to work fine.

So you can see the file, it's just erroring? Are you sure you have the base figure loaded and selected if you are using a shaping or materials preset?

  • I have Genesis 8 and Alexandra 8. I get the error message when I attempt to load Kellyn into the scene.

But do you have the base figure in the scene, and selected?

  • I Start DAZ.

I go to figures and select the icon for Kellyn.

At this point the icons for any asset I select within Kellyn are replaced with a question mark (I would post a screenshot here, but the imge posting seems pretty user hostile) not matter what I select including either Kellyn or Kellyn Older, the error message comes up.

To post a screenshot just click the Attach a file, then click the Browse button and select your image.

If you mean exclamation mark, rather than question mark, that sounds like an isntall issue - the files aren't where DS has been told they are.

  • You're right, Exclamation mark. I've tried uninstalling/re-installing several times, just allowing the software to find its own way, but if you're correct (And I have no reason to believe you're not) how do I repair the paths?

The confusing thing is that if I right click on the icon and select "Browse to File Location" it tales me straight there.

Wheer is the file - the full path - and what are your content directories - take a screen shot of the list in Edit>Preferences>Content>Content Directory Manager (or Daz Studio>Preferences>Content>Content Directroy Manager for the Mac).

  • Here it is:

    help.jpg
    519 x 495 - 134K
  • And this:

    help2.jpg
    1059 x 327 - 155K

If you open the Runtime folder in the second screenshot, then Textures in that, and keep going until you hit some files - can you open them in an image editor?

  • Tried in Photoshop, Paint, and Photos. Can't open them.

Just tried with some other textures in a folder for another figure, and they open straight up.

Try uninstalling the Connect version and downloading and installing the DIM version - does that work?

  • YES! using the DIM to overwrite the Connect files has got it back. Many thanks for the advice. yeslaughyes
