Rig or Kit-Bash for Static Doors, etc. ?

Hi everyone,
Sorry if sounds confusing-- not sure where to begin.
Here’s what I’d like to do.
Take static parts of a 'shell' building such as this one, and make the doors, shutters, etc. move. (Add a shallow interior or just for variety)

Complete novice at this. Is that kitbashing or learning how to rig? Not even sure what 'kitbashing' is to be honest. Term seems mentioned in passing quite a bit.
For rigging, I found a tutorial by a member named “RGcincy” but if reading correctly, infers parts are already separate. So how do you seperate the parts such as door & shutters in screenshot?
Bottom line: how would I get started in something like this?
thanks for reading

trick is to move the hotpoint to the edge of door, so it will swing on hinge,
It depends on the model - you may be able to turn the doors into separate bones if the model is not welded together and has an interior frame and back of the door; if, on the other hand, it's a single continuous skin you will not be able to do that. If you can't rig the model the alternative, "kit-bashing", is to to hide the door, and possibly frame, in the current model and then take a door from something sels and slip it into the hole.
Thanks. Clears things up and seems to go right to the chase.
Can Hexagon be used to safely ‘unweld’ a door or shutter?
I’ve barely used it, so don’t know if would lose material zones.
thanks again

It depends - if it's just a matter of unwelding then yes, but if you need to change the geometry Hexagon will wipe the UV mapping, meaning textures won't apply.
