For those who like 3d vehicles. Which vehicle do you prefer for a more realisitc engine 'under the hood' Do you have any recs?

If I needed a close up of a realistic engine, I'd pop the hood of the vehicle, hide the existing engine which generally look like afterthoughts, and put this DzFire V8 in its place.

Hah! I like it! Very creative. I think there was a christmas or April fools reebie that was a v8 engine, but dang if I can find it.
oh dear unless that is it and I didn’t nab it.
from my product Hooligan
Wow, thats top notch DarkEdgeDesign! How did I miss that?- Looks fantastic.
At the other place, there is a '69 Dodge Charger with a pretty decent engine. I did have to tweak the materials (it is a Poser product) for Iray, however. I like it because not only is there the engine, but battery, radiator, etc.
Looking for something for the guys to work on? Get those wrenches out. DarkEdgeDesign vehicles are top notch. They have lots of "working" parts.
Yes! And I still seem to be using the Pick 'em up truck, which seems to be my vehicle of choice. Most of my other vehicles don't appear to have hoods that open- and if they do, they are empty on the inside
This looks excellent. Although I'm not sure Boyd can fit inside it, that engine is great. I will have to wait for a sale.
Hope this engine does it for you.
That's it. It was free on 1 April 2016 but required purchase of another item.
Yep. It was a 'april fools' joke on us because we were still waiting for Victoria 8 to be released. Everyone was waiting with baited breath for V8.....and then there it was!
And it was a sweet engine model. I'd love to see some more (a V6, straight six, and a straight 4, and maybe even a V12) for putting 'under the hood' on a lot of car models.
My only complaint with most of these kinds of shots is the underside of the hood (or bonnet, in UK) is flat and completely ruins the realism of the result. Even just a flat texture map that 'simulates' what the underside of the real hood looks like would be fine.....but most don't even bother.
I like vehicles to be completely usable. Rigging so wheels turn match the steering wheel and vice-versa. Trunk (boot), doors, and hood (bonnet) should all open properly. Windows should raise and lower. And if something opens, the interior it exposes should be properly detailed. Some basic rotation rigging for visible parts on some engines would be good too. And do a decent dashboard and interior, and rig the gearshift and pedals. Yes, it's a LOT more work. But I'll pay a lot more for good solid work. I pass on a lot of vehicles (unless they're incredibly cheap) simply due to the lack of these details.
There are a few free obj engines I found at turbosquid... as to whether they really work with the cars I’m unsure but they can be shrunk down and fit in the hood.
i do agree cars hoods should open, windows should roll down and doors and trunks should open as well.
An old product c.2010

I don't think its as detailed as the V8
