expression distortion question

Ok, i have a question about expression distortion. Same problem with all different expressions one click expressions, morp dial expressions and from different manufacturers, expression made both for v7 and g3,,,  they work normally in most of my models, so the problem cant be in actual expressions. However when using some models i have clearly distortions, for example:

When dialing in some smile morph, expression pulls corners of the mouth back quite sharply and it doesnt look like normal smile, distortion can be seen spesially well in the lower part of face and mouth, upper part of the face works better, sometimes eye might look little different direction than another eye.

Also the teeth might be too low, i think this is an excellent glue, what my problem might be. So yeah there i s somekind of problem, I dont thing that the problem is in the actual model, i think it is in the bones or morphs, i have tried different uv's and it's not that and it doesn't even look like uv problem, uv problem looks like someone have been in cosmetic surgery and facial features look sharp.

So do i have double morphs active?, daz sometimes warns me on that when i load model, or do i have distortion in bones? can i reset the bones or something, if there is something going on in there?

i should add that, sometimes i make the model more usable adding little victoria7 head in her and maybe reducing main model head, but that is not anykind of fix because look of the face also changes.

I cant be first person to have this problem, but i dont know how to search it from google.

i appreciate all your help

Possible. Are all your morphs from DAZ store, or do you have freebies installed/content from other sites?

Expressions are designed to work with the base model shape.

Any change in that shape will affect how the expression reacts. The more extreme the morph, the more extreme the distortion.

Recently with my cyclops character I had to make Morph Control Morphs for every one of the expressions that come with G8M. This was no easy feat, believe me. But not every character morph warrants a fix to the epressions, and in most cases a fix morph is really not necessary. The expression will simply look "different" than it will look on the base figure. Then it all comes down to personal taste, and no PA can take that into account other than their own personal taste.

If you want to adjust the expressions on a particular character, you can always find the particular bone on the face that relates to the expression you are using and adjust that manually yourself to get the look you want. There really is no universal fix that will work on all accounts for this.

Personally, especially when it comes to smiles, I always find that a "less is more" approach is best. As Rawart suggests, each character morph will react to canned expressions or morph sliders somewhat differently. It is the same in the real world where no two people are identical and smiles are almost equally unique. I have purchased character morphs before that actually came with their own custom expression morphs for just this reason.

BeeMKay i have content from other sites also, for example renderosity, sharecg, most-digital,, i might have double morphs, i know i have atleast double nipple morphs

RawArt and SixDs that is good to know and i agree, less is more, especially what comes for expressions, i will try "show hidden features" and try to  adjust mouth from there.

Those low hanging upper teeth that i sometimes get still bothers me a little, but i can't see that it is effecting anyway to that what the model is posed to look, i can manually putt them upper, it will be just very anoying if i forget it, hit render button in a heavy scene, go out and come back later and there she is, mocking my noobines with weird teethy grin :D

I found that using a model with a hefty dose of Toon Generations 2 diald in made me have to carefully try expressions one by one. Some worked just fine. Others franky, broke the mesh.

  • Has anyone found a fix for this. I have a character I use a lot. It's Genesis 8 Female I've been working with her since summer of 2018. I wasn't having problems until a few weeks ago. I have a scene that is just her I insert into actual scenes. Like mahhen, I have been having issues with setting facial dials. The thing is the expression appears normally while I'm hold the dial with my mouse. The moment I let go the expression like pinches not necassarily together. The eyes are same location. The mouth and lower face seem to frown almost.

I loaded in a 100% brand new Genesis 8 Female. I use the expression dials they work fine. Bringing me to the conclusion that the shape morphs might have been messing with it. I use the edit > figure > zero > zero figure. So she is as vanilla as the G8F I just loaded, minus the Textures and Hair. Strangely the issue remains. I compared and contrasted between these two character for over a few hours to ensure they, (For lack of a better term) "Genetically Identical". The issue still remains. I even adjusted the skeleton, edit > figure > rigging > adjust to shape.

Finally after toiling for several hours. I take a new G8F and apply the shape and material preset I have made. No issue what so ever. My guess is the original scene with just her had corrupted or I have some obscure setting I some how hit.
