UDIM this unknown .... SOLVED

Hello everyobdy

A quick question, so I would appreciate a quick answer if possible, (this is the cause I turn this question to Richard Haseltine before, he's faster and clear to answer)

How do I export an obj mesh in UDIM format?
I'm using Substance Painter, (don't start to talk about 3D Coat or Mari etc, please) in my opinion the best one, drew around me. In the new release there's the way to load UDIM mapped obj's. If Allegorithmic implemented the new feature, it won't be there to make presence, or not?
What interests me is just the export procedure, or at least a track. Everything else, I got it.

Thank you

If the model is already UDIM then exporting by default will give a UDIM OBJ - all UDIM means is that the different areas are translated a number of whole units on the U axis, which has "always" been a feature of OBJ (for unknown values of always). DS can't make a non-UDIM layout UDIM, though I imagine Hexagon could.

Thank you Richard! Now tell me, I exported a figure from DS without split the mesh (legs, torso, head and so on) and if I load in C4D to see what UV there are, I see all the UV maps, close each other, and when I import that mesh in Substance Painter I see layers numbered 1001, 1002, 1003 , 1004 and so on, So ... why when I import the OBJ (G3F) each island are  in a different layer? Point is that I want to use the seamless paint, so I can paint from neck to shoulder, or from torso to leg, without seams. UDIM is useful to this too? Missing something when exporting from Daz? Or after Daz export need a work to get UDIM mesh? Sorry about all questions, but you are the only artist faster and accurate to answer.

The layers are the UDIM maps. Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you need - I do have Substance painter but haven't used it much or recently.

No problems Richard, I explain me better. I have to paint on G3 seamless, so I need to follow th right step to export G3 mesh in a format that I can use in SP and paint over the mesh seamless. :D

    Thank you!

Do you have a link to the requirements for that to happen?

No I don't. I didn't think to show pics cause is not a problem about settings or technical wrong steps, everything work perfect ideed. Mine is a question to solve the seamless painting.

Anyway here many people make questions about that, so I'm interested to paint onto G3 mesh not splitted and if a procedure to save in that way the obj is needed.

I meant a link to the instructions for handling a UDIM mesh in Substance Painter.

Afaik painting across udims is being worked on in substance painter but still not yet available. So this isn't an export thing but a current limitation of substance painters capabilities.

I was told that there was a way to do it, but I didn't fully (to put it mildly) folow the isntructions and haven't had a chance to try - hence asking for a fresh link.

Substance painter supports UDIM UV maps but currently does not support painting across UDIM zones. This is a highly requested feature that is being worked on, but as to my knowledge has not been implemented yet.

Richard: Ah ok! No I don't have links yet but I can see what I find about it.

J cade : I thought the same thing. I have tried to load in 3D Coat (just to try) the same mesh, it does the same as SP; all UV maps in one tiles and if you paint, paint in all maps.

Richard: Ahhhh, I thought you are able to solve this! Sorry for the link, but if it's useful to try, I will see what I find around! I believe could be possible to paint across UDIM too.

ratz43 : I agree, cause few infos about it, anyway I think that a little use of it could be possible. Maybe few things until Allegorithimics implement full paint UDIM, My opinion.

Thank you guys for your opinions. Meanwhile I'm still using my personal workflow for the seamless.... many many many patience to match the lines (patience of a comic book artist), otherwise my products for sell slowing down. 100 people quiver to buy my new "Sheila The Alter Ego" character, and all my textures I made in SP, in my opinion the best one!
