Title edited as several forum quirks exist especially regarding search functions
best way to do a search is Via Google
search term site:daz3d.com
is there a new forum policy on necrothreads even if it is updated information and new developments on old topics
for example Genesis 3 and 8 work well in Unreal Engine 4 for rendering
it is free and I have been playing with itbut none of those posts appear in recent and I cannot get feedback from others on the topic as a result

this was the test post
I guess after a time if one does not post in their art studio thread or a freebie thread etc it will now go the way of the dodo and new users will get no help searching topics and posting either
which means one must refrain from judging them for asking the same questions over and over on old topics as they may well have asked in a thread on the topic already
I recently had a thread I made necroed. It was from 2012. People responded to it as well..
Well I like that as some threads discussing old topics get very long and there are better more concise techniques now.
well I guess it will enable the n00bs to think they were the first to think of something
That's completely bizarre.
Well being the 1st to think of an ideal 1st has nothing to do with getting credit for it. I had, and probably many others, an ideal to sell old recorded music on the internet in the early 1990s via customers picking and choosing their shopping cart, like K-Tel & Ronco & Time-Life records but better. At that time there was no MP3s (there were still in research then) so I was going to burn the choices to CDRom. However, I had no ideal or really a fair chance to obtain licenses to do that since I would never get a chance to even know who to talk to that held those rights. LOL,
let alone the money to purchase the rights were the copyright holders willing; which they were not until their recording sales plummeted. A few years later comes Napster, Apple Music Store, and now there are so many such businesses that come and go in the music business it's like commodities traders. So the 1st to come up with an ideal usually does not become rich from it or can even be identified by the experts that write books or other such media about it.
Maybe the forum has developed Alzheimer's or dementia , loosing track of stuff happens alot with age
it does not apply to my own old threads
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/612/bringing-up-daz-on-android-again-maybe-ipad-too#latest
so it is possible it is related to the other thread's original poster
who is still active BTW
very odd
update
that thread has now been manually locked
so I better not test any other old ones further
Bumping a thread simply for the purpose of bumping it has never been allowed. Bumps are automatically removed. Necros are allowed as long as they are useful, necroing a thread when there is already a newer and more apt thread is somewhat pointless. Necroing a thread for no real good reason can also confuse some who try replying to the older posts, not realising how old they are.
so why doesn't that one by DigiDot on Unreal Engine 4 I am discussing appear in recent?

Can I ask a noobie question here ? (even though I've been around a while). What is necroing and what are necrothreads? I understand bumping but I don't know what these terms mean. It sounds like killing off or removing threads, but I suppose only moderators can do that.
is resurrection of an old thread usually 3 or more years old
the one I was posting in was on exactly the topic I wanted and had posted in quite a bit before
Unreal Engine 4 had been just released free and now $12mil worth of Paragon assets added to projects for it free
also Genesis 8 is posed correctly for retargetting so very suitable for a rendering engine
When we use the term bump it means that the thread has deliberately been posted to with no reason except to return it to the front page of the forum. No additional input has been made, it is just to keep it in view.
A necro thread is a thread that has been left to die, having run it's course, until someone decides to ressurect it. If the ressurection or necro is to add further info or to ask further questions on a point in the thread, then the necro can be useful However if there are newer threads, with newer and more pertninent info then the necro is pointless and can be confusing and annoying.
BTW we may remove posts and threads sometimes but we do not kill them off. We actually move them rather than remove them. We hide them behind the curtains, or sweep them under the carpet, or dump them with the packing cases down in the basement.
can you please point me to a newer thread on UE4 then or do I need to start one?
I had originally posted in the Carrara forum free software that makes life easier thread but since this actually involves DAZ studio and Genesis 3 and 8 I thought it more appropriate to post there
since DAZ are now actually selling game licenses for individual items I actually thought it was a market they were interested in exploiting and really should have warranted an actual game developers forum like there used to be, then it would be simpler to know where to look and get feedback.
is there a necro thread for soft body physics and the old pc hodded cloaks?
Well I suppose you could possibly read this one https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2336171/#Comment_2336171
or even maybe this one https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3574741/#Comment_3574741 if you need any more info
the second one is the one I was posting in that does not update in the forum
or rather didn't I see it now is on page 2 until today it was not doing that hence this thread as no idea how many others were not also which is why so many posts go unanswered as I actually try not to start new threads.
I had this happen again with the Jaderail is looking down on the stupid thread

was not an important thread as an off topic one but it basically means any newcomers posting in old threads will not get replies as they don’t appear on the latest recent discussions search so all those admonishing people for not searching a topic should bear this in mind
I am bringing this up as I saw a newish user again told by someone that a topic has been discussed before and they should search.
It may be but there are limits to the Human capacity to search (not really helped by the available tools, which are improving but still). I usually search and if I can't find something, perhaps my own fault, I'll make a new post about it. Richard will then usually point me towards the correct thread! It's just a fact of life really. One is more familiair with the daily traffic than another.
Try this in Google
your topic plus site:daz3d.com
yes forum search is really bad especially since there is an off topic complaint thread in the commons that is perpetual with people constantly quoting everything previous posters have posted filling pages of forum search on any key words
I often edit/reduce the quotes I do and highlight just the part I'm responding to, similar to the one right above. Mostly for readability and not so much to help search function...because I'm just a tiny minority of posters on the off-topic thread, and therefore I know that me alone won't make a huge difference to search. But even so, editing and highlighting always requires more time. Time that I don't always have for stuff like that.
You will see the effects of people quoting quotes quoted by others quoting quotes adnauseum pretty quickly making any forum software search even though it appears truncated in the quotes, I use Google site search for that reason.
Again not having a go at anyone, just another function of the forum software.
The German thread was worse and they stopped doing what they were doing as it caused so much chaos duplicating everything in German, again not their fault just what the software did.
