Genesis 2 Starter Essentials missing

I went to load a base G2F, and everythig in my Genesis 2 Starter Essentials folder is gone. I get the blank thumbnail with a exclamation point in a triangle. When I double-click, I get a message saying "could not open file; file does not exist". Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to solve it? It's not just Genesis 2, but EVERY Genesis 2 character that's affected. I entered a ticket, but thought I would ask in case anyone else knew how to fix this issue.

And now, ALL Genesis figures are gone.

I've not looked to see if the files are missing for me, but I did note that my DIM has ALL the starter essentials (Genesis, G2, G3, and G8) listed as available for update. You might check your DIM to see if you have that listed as well.

That worked for Genesis 2, 3, and 8 - but not Genesis 1. I updated through DIM (which I never use, which is why I missed the updates), but Genesis 1 is still missing.

I had reinstalled all my products a few weeks back and discovered that the genesis 1 2 and 3 essentials were borked. Luckily, I had my old libraries backed up, and those work, but I am afraid that applying updates (I decided to install manually again), might screw up my working files. Anyone have any problems after updating?

Again....Daz....you need to develop a way to notify people if there are updates OTHER THAN DIM since some of us manually install. Thanks.

Use DIM as a download-manager only, installing by hand.

FWIW, Genesis Starter Essentials for Genesis 1, 2 and 3 STILL do not show up in DIM, either in already installed or to be installed sections. Any reason why that might be?

    Thanks Ivy! And...weird. LOL

Edit: Nope, even that doesn't make them show up in mine. Still just see Genesis 8 male and female ONLY (and no, they aren't hidden)

Oh, they are in my online product library, but just not in DIM, which means if there is an update, I can't see them. And I can't tell when they've been updated (or even if), as there's nothing on the product page that tells you anything about any updates.

Edit: *sigh* this is a full time job...lol. It DOES say on the Essentials pages in the docs center when they've been updated and what for. From what I can see, I can skip the update. Now. to go thru all my almost 4000 products to see if I have the newest version o.O.

I could have sworn for a short period of time a couple weeks ago, I saw an update for every one of them. Maybe I need more coffee...

Updating did solve the problem. Like AllenArt, I don't use DIM, so had no notification there was an update. Weirdly, once everything disappeared, I got the "update" button on the Genesis 2, 3, and 8 Starter Essentials when I went into those folders, but not Genesis 1. I ran the update for G1 throught DIM, but that didn't solve the issue. I had to right-click the G1 icon, and then chose "update".

They also didn't show up in the install tab when I selected "updates" or whatever that tab is called.

Even if you prefer manual installation for normal products you can still use Connect to install the most important core products like the Genesis Starter Essentials or the Default Resources to make sure they are up to date always.

In the smart content tab filter bar with nothing selected in the scene enter "Starter" to see all the Genesis Starter Essentials.

Right click on them to install the Connect version.

Now each time when you start DAZ Studio you can quickly browse to the update tab to see if there are any.

Or do it just once a week or once a month. Up to you.

A benefit of installing core files inside DAZ Studio with Connect is that you do not loose time starting up another software like the DIM and can check for updates without loosing much time whenever you are working with DAZ Studio.

In any case that way you should not miss any updates to the most crucial core products that should be kept up to date to make sure everything is working as intended.

Just do not mess around with the product files installed to the Connect folder and keep that library exactly as it is.

If you do want to create you own custom libraries with other products you can still download the .zip files with the DIM and install them manually as Richard suggested.

IF you create content however, I would advise using anything other than Connect to install your content as Connect doesn't supply anything you can modify. You can only modify files installed manually or through DIM.

Creating content should not require modifying the base files, and there's nothing Connect does to stop you creating add-on content (using it as a source for Transfer Utility, exporting the mesh for UV extration or morph creation, etc.).

The other day when I was bored I sorted the store by price. It had Genesis 2 make starter essentials which it insisted I had never purchased so I put it in the cart to check out.

I know I own the set though. Not sure why the store thinks otherwise.

I thought the Essentials were the free bases? o.O Everyone should have those, right?

Yes, though they now have store pages so that people can purchase the Interactive License

  • AllenArtAllenArt Posts: 7,175

Well, I guess DIM thinks I haven't purchased them then. The only ones that show up are the Genesis 8 Essentials ;) They used to all be there before they were last updated.

I install everything using Conect, and the items disappeard. Interestingly, EVERY item I had installed is now uninstalled. They all show as highlighted in Smart Content, but when I click on the icon, all the thumbnails show a square with an exclamation point. I have to right click and chose install to reinstal them. None of them show as needing to update. Except for Michael 4, Hiro 4, and Victoria 4.2, which won't let me chose install. DIM shows them as installed.

As they are free in the store, you can just re-purchase them if the store thinks you dont own them

And some of my friends wonder why I wont use DIM, refuse to have the CMS on my system, and even go as far as to delete the smart content plugin.

All this "fancy stuff" is fine so long as you the user don't get lazy and rely solely on it, sadly most of you do rely on it, so when ever any of it goes FUBAR (and they always do) you are ****ed because you haven't the faintest idea WTF to do about it.

DIM is fine as it lets you install where you want and have multiple libraries and all content is accessable from the Content Library pane without the need for CMS.  Connect on the other hand needs CMS and the database to work.
