Depends on your library setup. I don't use DIM, Connect or smart content and as an old poser user still have a ton of poser content I use in DS. My poser runtime directories are mapped just like the DS libraries, so they load the same as DS only content.
If you don't have any poser content, then create a folder for poser content and then extract any poser files to it and then map that directory and you should be able to load it like any DS content
I open the zip, drag and drop the results into My Daz 3D Library, and then I open them from the Poser (Props, I think) section of the Content Library. I assume I could make a product oiut of them to get them into Smart Content but I've never messed with that.
Yeah, most of his stuff load as props. Some his *really* old stuff are .obj files, but most of his store is packaged in Poser libraries, and Poser stuff loads into Studio just fine. It's Poser-specific weightmapped rigging and procedural shaders which don't work, and I don't think any of his models use those.
Really nice stuff. Although sometimes one wishes one could turn off a wall to get a camera into place.
geometry editor could probably do the trick. Select the polygons of the wall you want removed and either hide the polygons, or if you plane to save and revisit, create a new material zone and turn the opacity down.
Thanks guys, for the tips on using them in ds.
wow, These images that you are all posting are outstanding.
Thanks for the tip on the specular and color- I did a quick render of his castle just after I bought it and wasn't that impressed with the outcome. I thought I would have to redo the textures, but if I can get those kinds of results out the box,... I'm now hyped to give it another go.
I grabbed one of those Rendo buildings to check out and... enh. First there's keeping track of where it is, also at least one broad set of materials just didn't work, and a lot of surfaces are mixed, like one surface has wood and metal and glass.
I'd rather spend more money on stuff that fits my workflow better from the Daz store, personally.
And if it exists, you should! Does it exist?
(I’ve no idea what you mean about ‘one broad set of materials didn’t work’ and I’m a bit taken aback in general because you’re the king of ‘make it work in the wrong context’ though I guess perhaps that’s changed now that you’re a pro.)
I too appreciate the Iray tips. I’m usually pretty laissez faire about conversions because of post-work but the less I have to do the better and I appreciate the shooting flexibility better textures (and models) brings.
I do know that the more recent stuff from Dante78 seems significantly more usable than older stuff. He’s redone several sets with better usability — more props, interiors, better surfaces. And they’re so darn affordable so often. Still looking forward to a Faveral sale but they complement each other nicely, rather than being interchangeable.
Using geometry editor to get rid of a part of the model is fine. But needing to do it every time you use that model is a pain.
Saving the scene so you can go back to it and adjust things later helps. But sometimes you need to just settle down and make a project of it. I ended up putting a couple of days into Winnston1984's INRiver Cottage Which is another model where you can't hide a wall to make space for the camera.
And the matt zones weren't much help since they applied to just about everything. Fortunately, just about every stick in that model is a different face group, so once I renamed and re-sorted them all I could group them into sections and apply opacity then.
As this discussion was done quite recently:
Right now some of the stuff from Dante78 is on sale at Rendo - between 60% and 80% off.
I probably would have bought lots of it, if not 3-d-c was also on sale, and his stuff is thematically closer to my render intentions right now... and as limited budget dictates what to buy... *sigh*
Thanks for the heads up.
Woops, forgot about this thread. Here's an example of what I'm talking about... it loads with one set of maps missing. They are trivially easy to set up (the maps are THERE it just doesn't read them in properly).
But it shows the problem; all that wood, glass, and metal is all one surface. That's... annoying, and a lot of work to separate.
Mind you, it definitely works fine for medium to long range filler. I'm not claiming it's BAD, but it has clear limitations.
$ 3.00
But yeah, people are different and have different priorities. Mine is "pay low, even if you have to invest some time to get it working" which also makes me buy the Poser stuff from 3-d-c into which I have to invest some time and brainwork to get them working, but that on the other hand give me an ample amount of props that can be used for other stuff and a very flexible buildup.
That "Tavern #1" has no interior, to it's a prop for background work anyway, and for me the current price is quite okay for it. Wouldn't pay $ 20.- for it. But even for the regular price it is - in my eyes - a bargain compared to a lot of more expensive stuff, that doesn't offer more, but often less functionality, except for "working right out of the box".
another video and grabbed some under $3
Great little animation there showing off some of those sets. Thanks for sharing.
and now just think about what you would have to pay for a pack with just some pigs and chickens by someone else
