is there a way to link my installed library to a fresh installation of daz studio?

I re-installed my windows and after downloading, installing and configuring my install manager, started to re install all of my packages, luckily they can be installed from my download folder but even without the need to download them again, the installation process takes ages to finish.

now my question is: is there a way to give daz studio the address of my installed files and let it recognize which files are already installed?
I tried changing the content directory to point to the old installed files but they didn't appear in the smart content, even install manager recognize the downloaded files but doesn't recognize the installed ones.

Try right clicking on the "DAZ Studio Formats" in the Content Library Pane and clicking "Add a Base Directory...":

    Hope this helps.

I didn't try that, I assumed setting all of the addresses in the content directory manager is enough, after all my folder was showing ubder  both "daz studio formats" and "poser formats as the only path" and adding it again didn't cross my mind,
however I think it's more related to something the install manager does rather than what I do in daz studio. without touching any settings the files started to appear when I install them in the same folder.

It's not the Installation Manager, it's more likely the content database and content manifest files. Did you back those up before you reinstalled Windows? I've never needed to poke at them myself, but I think their default location is a hidden folder in your personal account folder.

no I erased my windows drive that contained my application data, one of the worse moves that programmers do is saving settings in a folder that is hidden in depths of operating system instead of the programs or it's libraries folder. I don't know what goal that achieves other than slowing down the operating system. but I guess there's no point to point these out since nobody cares about them but me.

    ^_^
    thanks for the answer

Setting the paths in content directory manager is enough for Studio to find files. The manifest files allow the Install manger to know what has been installed. The manifest files do hide in a default location that is not directly changeable.

You can change the location of the manifest files, but it requires an edit to the .ini file used by DIM - and guess where that can be found? Yes, hidden away in the depths of AppData. Here: C:\Users\youraccountname\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts

My Manifest files are on a diffferent HDD - the edit is like this:

OverrideManifestDir=E:/DAZ Installation Manager/DIMZ ManifestFiles    <=== or wherever you want them to be stored.

Of course it's too late for you now... sad

there are many small inconveniences in how daz studio and DIM function I hope the developers pay some attention to these small problems that can be fixed easily.
