How to insert a character.

For this question i will use Lavana as an example:

Right now when i want a character i double click on that character and its there. In some occassion there is only a morph available so i place a Gen3 and apply the morph.

This leads me to the following question as i read several people dod things different.

Say i want Lavana in my scene. What is the "best" way to do this or what is the difference:

  1. I double click on Lavana and she is there
  2. I add Genesis 8 move the slider for Lavana to 100%
  3. I add Stephanie 8 and move the slider to 100%
  4. I add the Genesis 8 Move the slider for stephanie 8 then move the slider for Lavana. (Admitting this one sounds weird to me)

Do they all lead to the same result or is there an underlying difference between the various methods?

Double-clicking on a specific character/figure itself has the advantage of the materials/textures and shape loading automatically. Some figures get loaded with less than 100% scale (eg. Charlotte 8 is 94.5%).

Starting with the base Genesis 8 figure requires more work. Lets take Charlotte 8 for example. If I want to make G8F to look like Charlotte, I have to scale her down to 94.5%, load her mats, and use the body and head sliders. This is more work than just double-clicking Charlotte herself.  Unless you want to start from scratch, I think it's better to load the figure you want and do the customization from there.

LOL, the "more work" part gives me a good chuckle. Surely the few seconds and few clicks it takes, isn't that inconvienant. I never use a character as is, so just loading the character doesn't work for me. I have quite a few saved shaping presets I have created that I use and if I create a complex figure shape, I just save it as a scene and merge it in to whatever scene I am working on as needed

To answer the OP, there really is no correct way to load a character, but some characters come with lots of small details that can be missed when loaded manually like lashes, nails, belly button etc, so if you are set on using a specific character, then just load the full character to get all the details. You can always take away or add other things later.

There should be a master slider for Charlotte 8 that will set the body and head and also apply the scaling.

One thing to be aware of is that if you load the character preset the shape will be memorised, restoring (or alt/opt-clicking on the sldiers) will set them to the Charlotte 8 values, not to zero.

Yes that makes sense. I often see extra buttons like add/remove bellybutton and such. What i do now is indeed load the character i want, annd adjust him/her from there.

    Thanks!
