why does the lighting change with this camera?

(shown in pic) not sure why it does this but when I use my 'camera 1' and zoom in on a character she goes dark I guess through a shader effect which is strange as I didn't think cameras emitted shade. Pic one is her normally and pic 2 is when I move the camera closer to her you see the shader effect. I don't get this at all.

I don't have any lights in the picture either so that doesn't come into it. I am confused and this is hindering how I am working. Any solutions please?

  • Do you have the headlight of the camera set to "On"?

Select the camera > Parameters > scroll all the way down and set it to off

The headlamp is offset from the camera position, so when you zoom close it is no longer shining flat on to the object in view. Using real lights, as Illidanstorm suggests, will avoid the effect.

K there's no 'headlight' option in the 'parameters' tab. Seems to be a lot of other stuff but not this.

Check render settings - General, and than the second to last option Auto Headlamp. It's generally put on "When no scene lights" try to put it on "Never" and see if that helps :)

  • its in Parameters > All at the bottom or just type in headlamp at the search bar of the parameters

You do need to have real lights in the scene, or to use the nVidia Iray Previwe mode to se the effect of the environment map.

Ok real lights I shall do. So now that I understand more with that then should I undo the 'auto headlamp never' option in render settings I was told to do by Carola O or doesn't it matter? K thanks all.

Never is a pretty good idea.

I have a scene that loads by default; it has a tiny light set to effectively zero (it is so low); this stops auto headlamp working. Don't ask me why i did that way, I've no idea.

You can also use CTRL-L to turn off the lighting effects in texture mode, which will usually keep everything the same lighting so you can do all your posing and scene building.  I don't know of any downsides to doing it either, as long as you use Iray preview mode to hceck your lighting and make sure it's where you want it
