Map manager

I know this might sound dumb but I'm looking at this Map Manager by V3Digitimes and all the great things you can do with it except I don't understand what all the great things you can do with it do. I guess my lack of understanding lies in their definition of "properties".

What are Properties? At least as used in reference to maps.

Properties are parameters, that mostly appear as sliders etc. in the various settings panes. Some properties (most obviously those in the Surfaces pane) can take maps, which mostly combine with a colour or strength to give a final value for each point on a surface.
