Accessing the Materials information from a Blender obj inport

I am new to Daz but have been working in blender for a while now.  I have successfully uploaded my blender obj file into Daz but am lost as to how to get the "color" back into my work.  I have googled the heck out of the subject and can't find anything newer than a 2013 Sickleyield entry discussing it.  Unfortunately, her post was vague (to me anyway, assumed I had a lot more knowledge than I do.) and I was not able to get my materials to reference back to my obj inport.  Also, considering the age of the post I wasn't even sure it was valid with the new smart content stuff.

Anyone out there have any helpful hints on this?

Thanks

  • I've made a lot of models in Blender, specifically for use in DAZ Studio. I've never bothered doing any texturing in Blender so I'm not really sure what Studio picks up from the .mtl file, other than the material zones (which of course are the essential thing). I don't think much is transferred in terms of material properties. I do all the materials in Studio from the Surfaces panel, whether that be linking texture maps, simply adding base colours, or quite often, applying a shader preset from my collection in Studio. As I know a lot more about Studio texture properties than I do about Blender's I find it a lot easier to apply textures and shaders there.

I'm presuming you can see the material zones in the Surfaces tab. I don't think an imported object is visible in Studio without at least one material zone.

  • Thx, I couldn’t get it to work so I decided that was the way to go as well.

The answer is almost nothing - DS doesn't pick up texture assignment or shaders from the mtl.  You basically have to go to Surfaces tab and manually assign textures that you have exported to .jpg or .png from Blender.
