G8 weightmap

I can't remember but I think I read that Daz switched from the Triax weight system when they went to G3 or G8 or something. Does anyone know which system it was that was used for G8?

Dual quaternion. And it was G3 :)

    Thank you

It's odd that converting a prop to figure doesn't have that weightmap option :(

I *think* the "General weight mapping" is the dual quaternion. But don't quote me on that. LOL

If you built the item yourself, it will be easier to import it through the Figure Setup tab

I'll give that a try. If not, Triax does work pretty well.

Thank you for your help :)

Nope, not my item. I'm finding an easier way (with better results) to convert shoes from previous gens to G8.

I'm posing the shoe so it fits directly over the default posed G8

Then I send the shoe to Hex and send it back to Daz to create a prop.

Finally, parent the shoe to the G8 figure and go to edit->rigging->convert prop to figure and make sure the inherit parent bones is checked and click ok. Done

Feel like making a short tutorial? :D Or was that it? LOL I would love to get my older shoes over to the new figures.

That was pretty much it. I tried the Triax weight on the shoe prop and it came out pretty good. I'm getting ready to try it with the General weight and see if the result is any better. (the Triax weight left a fold where the toes meet the foot, but that was the only defect on a heel shoe transfer)

In the Tool Settings pane, with the Node Weight Map brush tool active, the Binding tab has buttons for the Weight Mappinging mode (General or TriAx) and the General Weight Mode (Linear or Dual Quaternion).

I guess I did leave out some information when posting the steps... here's the complete

I've not tried on shoes that load up as a pair yet, but I suspect that if you load up 2 copies and hide 1 shoe on each copy, then this method should work as well.

Load up your G8 figure and deselect it.

    Load up your shoes

position and pose your shoes so they are lined up with G8's default pose

Now you can either send the shoe to hexagon and back via the bridge to create a new prop or go to edit->figure->rigging->convert figure to prop

now parent the shoe props to G8

then go to edit->object->rigging->convert prop to figure

the defaults should work fine (Triax weight map and with Inherit skeleton of parent checked)

    click ok

fit shoes to G8 using unsupported and done.

I'm messing around to see if I can use this method except instead of positioning the shoes (which cause a little distortion where the toes meet the foot) I want to position the figure to the shoes default. So far no luck with that.

  • Can you post some renders of your results, Kaotkbliss?

The first one is Lany shoes (load as a pair) the 2nd is the scifi siren boots. Both now on G8 figures

@kaotkbliss Kudos to you for sharing this. I may never use it, because I'm too busy and buy ready made items needing minimal tweaking, but you do deserve a huge giant thank you. You should do screen capture, create a tutorial and sell it on Daz because fitting shoes from other gens to G8 is a known issue and a niche nobody has filled sucessfully.
