Applied shader hiding mesh detail...

Hello all =)
One image I have a texture applied to the background prop, on the other a reflective metal. The detail of the prop that is visible with the metal applied is somewhat lost, and Id like to know why, what I can do to fix or enhance. If the detail is from the mesh, i dont understand why its lost when textures are applied =/
any advice, suggestions or ideas would be immensely appreciated.

Same prop, same morph, but still not satisfied with the level of detail. Carrara render, and yes, carrara has it at the correct density.
is this a typical affect with high density meshes?!?
Are these using Iray or 3Delight shaders? And which renderer are you rendering with? Offhand, it looks like there is some displacement/bump map that is getting lost.....very possible if the original shader is 3Delight, then you apply an Iray metal shader, then render in Iray. It's also possible the map is staying, but that the level of bump/displacement is too low/high for whichever direction you went (Iray->3Delight or 3Delight->Iray.)
Using iray... the detail is in the mesh, there is no displacement, bump or normal map being used on the flat, no shader surface. On both renders with textures the studio and carrara, the shaders are using bump maps, so one would expect to see even more detail, not less.
For the most part, my bump map is set to 1 at 100%, usually i get distortion if increased any further, but not necessarily "more bump".
Will try with that you say, thanks for the pointers =)
Here is the Carrara render w/o textures...
I lowered the bump setting from -1/1 to -.01/.01... i also scaled the texture down, but that shouldnt matter much (i dont think?!?) to how much the mesh detail shows...
its not that it looks "bad", and i hope im not crazy... but does anyone else even notice the loss of detail or is it just me?!?
