Confused and lost

I was really happy and excited when I saw Daz studio was free and it excited me to think of all the wonderful, creative things I could do with it. Then, I got lost in the reality that I had no idea how to do anything and absolutely no help from anywhere. I tried looking up tutorials and they didn't help much. I feel like that funny Prozac/Money sketch Mad TV did where they say "How do I buy things? With money. How do I get money? From the bank. How do I get the money to put in the bank in order to buy things? Bye bye ... we're out of time."
I don't have money to spend $60 on a Bundle or $29 for a base model. I'm creative enough to where I am fairly confident that I can make my own. Then comes the part where you say "OK, so how did these artists make the things that they are now selling? How do you make your own textures, models, props, etc.?" And there's no answer. I have looked up "Free Models for Poser/Daz" for like 2 days and either Google is not worth anything, or I'm searching wrong. I went to Rederosity and all I could find in Free stuff was ... well ... JUNK. I mean, c'mon: a clown nose is nothing more than you making a ball, painting it red, and sticking it on a Model's face. Not even worth downloading that. I even searched on THIS site for Freebies and got maybe 4 things that were $0.00. In the Freebie Section, there's several items (on the only 2 pages) that are $6. That's not free.
So, where do I get actual free stuff to practice with, or ACTUAL TUTORIALS to learn how to make my own textures and models? I mean, the artists who are selling things like Victoria 5 had to find out from somewhere how to make her shape and realistic textures. I'm not trying to steal anyone's business or trade secrets here, I just want to be pointed in the right direction so i can go down my own creative path like i did when i learned how to draw and use Photoshop. Can anyone Help?

Thanks.

It's not a matter of secrets, it's a matter of trying to take what people invest years into and simplifying it to a couple tutorials.... akin to trying to get a PHD with only having to do a short certification course. That's why you are failing, your perspective is incorrect.

Try http://www.sharecg.com for some great stuff for the freebie collection - just be careful to check if they are allowed for commercial use should you plan on making money with any of it.

As for tutorials, sorry - I don't use Daz Studio, so can't help finding good ones. Hopefully somebody else will come along and post some.

It will, as Gedd said, take time and effort to become proficient - but acceptable results can happen quite quickly once you grasp the basics.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!

For free clothes for Genesis you could take a look at the stuff Wilmap has been producing.

    http://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=Wilmap

As a starter guide for making textures I did this http://chohole.ovbi.org/texture_tutorial.htm

DAZ Studio is not a modeling tool nor a texturing tool. That's where you were wrong. It's rather a posing/animating/rendering tool

For modeling there are lots of free softwares available like Blender, Hexagon, Wings 3D, Sketchup, Sculptris, Metasequoia.

If you want to model cloth specifically for DS you can have a look at this thread http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/2174/

As Gedd said, it will take more than a couple of tutorials to get something descent

Actually, there is a forum devoted to helping new users. It's called the New User Help Forum. Lots of guidance there on how to get up and running in Studio.

Thank you all. I am a fast learner ... extremely actually. I'm not hoping to get a PhD, but at least I know where to start my studies. Thank you all.

I just want to be pointed in the right direction so i can go down my own creative path like i did when i learned how to draw and use Photoshop.

    Since noone mentioned it:

If you really want to learn how to build models from scratch maybe Pixologic ZBrush would be a solution.

There is also a link from DAZ Studio to Zbrush called GoZ.
You can take any DAZ content export it to Zbrush, make some changes (morphs) and import the model back.

    http://pixologic.com/zbrush/

A PR video that shows where zbrush is used:

Pixologic ZBrush Feature video - Siggraph 2011

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYXr7AuPGwE

Zbrush also has fair pricing for 699$ you get a lot of options.

I started using Blender and it's cool as well. Thanks for the push in the right direction.

Hello asylumchild2000.... If you would like to get an idea of how to make models similar to how Z brush models are made, but can't afford the $700 price tag, then you could give Sculptris a try... it has the low price of $0 and 0¢... it's not as powerful as Z brush, and you could actually make simple characters that would be rigged for posing... that will take some learning and it's not easy, but at least with Sculptris you can have a program that won't expire and will give you an idea of whether or not 3D sculpting is something you wish to get into or not.
    Sculptris:
    http://pixologic.com/sculptris/

If you are interested in picking up some of the Lingo of 3D art and modeling you can give this Glossary a peek:
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/46/
I wrote it a while ago at the old site and will eventually update it when I get a chance, but most of the stuff is still relevant... some of the links are probably old and dead, or undead... bring a shotgun just in case, but anyway it might help a bit with some of the terms that are tossed about like dead sardine at a sea lion convention... well, it appears my ability to make sense is fading, so before I go off to shout at the squirrels in my yard, I'll leave you with these two tid bits.... tid... bits... that sounds funny when you say it out loud... anyway....
Google "Figures, Characters and Avatars- The official guide to using DAZ studio to create beautiful art" aside from possibly being the longest book title in western history since "Arthur P. Grumwald's complete guide to taxidermy and and costume creation for chipmunks that died of natural causes all for the express purpose of using their lifeless corpses to accurately recreate the battle of Gettysburg-Volume 2"... where was I?... oh yeah, besides the long title, the "Figures, characters...blah,blah,blah" book comes with a disc that has on it:
3D Starter Pack - (animals mostly)
    Aiko 4 Starter pack
    -Aiko 4 Base
    Aiko 4 Isa, Realistic Textures
    Arisu Character
    Posh Hair
    School Girl Uniform
    Attitude Poses
    Attitude Expressions
V4 Bodysuit Unimesh Fits (Requires Victoria 4 Bodysuit)
    Hiro 4 Starter Pack
    -Hiro 4 Base
    Austin Hair
    Nagase Hiro 4
Hiro 4 Bodysuit Upgrade (Requires M4 Bodysuit)
    Hiro 4 Realistic Textures
    Slicer
Michael 4 Complete ( with Morphs ++) and clothes and hair
Victoria 4 Complete (with Morphs ++) and clothes and hair
    Apartment 39
    Apartment 39 Exp
    Appliances
    Mod Furniture
    Mod Furniture 2
    Mod Furniture 3
    Mod Furniture XP
    Millenium Dog LE
    Mil Gorilla
    Millenium Horse
    Sea Dragon
    Mil Dragon 1

Plus Carrara Pro 6 and Hexagon 2

There is one problem though... actually two... First- is the nimrod who published the book messed up the serial codes for Hexagon (and possibly Carrara too) so good luck getting them to work, But you still get a lot of content for the price of the book, which should be around $20-30... The second problem is the book is like two or more years old, so it might be hard to find.
The third problem is you are possible still reading this and wondering when I'm gonna stop writing and talking so strange, well I have no idea when I'm gonna stop writing or talking strange, so sorry about that... besides you started talking about Prozac monkeys first...
It might be possible for you to submit a support ticket to DAZ to get the serial numbers... if you can show you legally purchased the book... so like if there is blood all over the receipt or the book, wipe it off before you take a picture of it and send it to DAZ... they used to except proof of purchase, but its been two years or so and DAZ isn't as cuddly as it used to be... anyway good luck with that.

Last tiddly bit... click on the "VISIT MY ShareCG FREEBIE GALLERY" under my banner image for some really strange FREE models.

    Good luck.

In the Freebie Section, there's several items (on the only 2 pages) that are $6. That's not free.

You've probably been logged out when you visited the Freebies section. All items are $0.00 if you're logged in.

    A list of modeling apps:

But since your using Blender, I recommend looking at this tutorial here - http://blendercourse.com/English/blendercourse-basics-v2

But that is only the modeling half of things.

Good to know, as I still refer folks to the book.

PS... To be honest, that was the only thing that made the book worth buying... otherwise you could pick up that info almost anywhere in DAZ-land... Did they really need to spend two pages explaining what a sad or happy person looks like?

There is also the free model Apollo that comes with a large variety of clothing and a large assortment of morphs.
    http://www.antonkisieldesigns.com/~akfiles/htmlpages/ApolloMaximusFree3dhumanfigure.htm

I suggest saving the page to the computer as the password for the files is there, as well as lots of other information. The only thing you may want to purchase for Apollo is the Cole morphs found at runtimedna, which really expands the morphs of Apollo, it's on permanent sale for $5.09 and you can find that here...
    http://www.runtimedna.com/Cole-for-ApolloMaxiumus.html

There is an alternative the the $600.00 version of ZBrush, which by the way, if you can afford it you should definately get it, it's like modelling with clay but on a computer. The alternative is Sculptris, which you can also get at Pixelogic and it's free. Not as many features as the main program, yet there is still lots you can do with it.
    http://pixologic.com/sculptris/

Depending on how you learn, you may want to check out youtube video's for tutorials on both Daz, Sculptris and ZBrush.

Of course...if you ever have a problem with learning, you can always come back here to ask for help, there are many wonderful artists here who enjoy helping others learn. I would also suggest PFD Lives www.pfdlives.com another group that is great at helping people learn their programs. There is also my site, which is basically set up for the moment with lots of links to various programs for a variety of things including 3D programs. http://caliescorner.forumotion.ca/
