picture rendering a all black...

for a scene, I added camera and distant lights. all looks fine and well lite while editing, but the render is all black as if there were no lighting.

im sure I missed a setting, but cant find it after browing through.

 

help?

Is the scene an enclosed space? Distant lights are just that - distant - so they will be blocked by walls etc. (the avatar in the viewport sets the light's direction, not the location of the source).
