Genesis 8 backwards compatibliy

How backwards compatible is G8 with older models/figures? I tried using some Genesis 1/M4 textures on the G8 male and they don't seem to work.

Textures won't work unless you buy a product that transfers older maps to the newer figures - only G3 textures will work natively on the G8 figures, and even then only the G3 base textures. To use the different Genesis 3 figure UVs (like Victoria 7 for instance) you either need to bake them out yourself or use the commercial products in the Daz store; morphs won't work unless you transfer them yourself using a free script found in the forums; poses won't work without fixing the arms and legs (also commercial products that do this as well as free ones); a lot of clothing and hair will work with varying results - if you use autofit then any custom bones will still be removed and you'll have dresses and long hair that may not work if they had bones to adjust them - unless, again, you buy a commercial product to do it ;) You can also try doing it all yourself with the transfer utility. Hair from G3 to G8 is dead easy. Clothing takes more work.

Where Daz is saying "compatible" they mean there are included clones for a lot of the older Genesis line, including male clones in the female figures and vice versa. G8 actually was released with more built-in clones than previous Genesis figures.

Very backwards compatible. It will use genesis 3 textures and autofit clothing down to genesis. There is a plugin to use clothing and hair from V4/M4 from sickleyield. Cayman studios has addons that alloow for older textures to be used

I am currently fitting Victoria 3 and Aiko 3 to Genesis 8 by first autofitting using clones to G3F, then creating wearables that work rather well on Genesis 8.
