So disappointed!

I cannot begin to express how disappointed and frustrated I am with Daz Studio 4.ten. First off, the very name itself should be a telltale sign. You have promoted Daz Studio 4.9 for over a year and now this new version is 4.10?? Really??!! (shakes head). But lets get to the crutch of the problem. I spent $87 yesterday purchasing several items in the March Madness sale. Downloaded the 1.5 GB of files this morning only to find out one of the bundles simply doesn't work. Centaur 7 Female Pro Bundle has two hair files included...Adalyn Hair for Genesis 3 and Colony Hair for Genesis 3. Loading the centaur up and adding the either hair file...goes smoothly. Its when I try to change material (as in color) that things are not what they seem. Then to further add insult to injury, rendering the scene produces snow white hair with no color. None of the material files in the library seem to change anything. I am using the Delight materials and not the Iray (couldnt give me an Nvidia card)  Looking at the files closer, specifically the material files ....? marks thruout.  Is this where Daz  has evolved?  So caught up in Iray that you no longer care about the product thats being put out?

Fortunately for me, I also own Poser 11 Pro. I am going to try to work these files into poser. If I can do that...then we are fine. I will most likely have to play with the material files to get the color I want ...but I thought I was purchasing a preset already for render. If I cant get them to work in poser...then I am done with Daz and everything associated with it.  I am sorry...been a loyal customer for a long time.

Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 will not work in Poser.  You may need to file a support ticket as I don't recall anyone else having problems when the model first came out.

Actually Genesis 3 and 8 both can be imported with limited functionality into Poser 11 (obviously not in their native format). Darkelf51 is correct about having to work on material files in poser.

This is exactly the same version numbering system that every major application has used for the last 40+ years.

I've got a question for you ,how did you install the files ? Cause here is both the hairs you mentioned with the 3Delight materials , the Question marks  on your files says that something didn't get loaded right ....

I used the install manager... when you double click the material...it acts as if its loading.  But the color doesnt change at the preview level and certainly doesnt change at the render.

I'd say try reinstalling ,cause again it seems that something didn't install or didn't install where it was suppose to

Yes, the ? means that something is not right.  I have no issues with these hairs either and I load everything with DIM.  Are you using an external drive or anything like that?

You are right. Its worth a try, I suppose. It was really frustrating and here lately that seems to be the only way Studio wants to work for  me.  Thank you for your help!

No....straight off the net to the working HD. The download and install went flawless with DIM.

Yah I know the frustrateing thing but I've learned to save what I'm working on ,close Studio down ,walk away and do something else for abit ..... keeps me from trying to jump up and down on the computer .....

Okay.  Did you happen to have Studio open when you were installing?

LOL!!. Yup, thats what I did for the last hour or so. Lunch...a little TV...and here I am back at it. I do a lot of compositing with Photoshop and I was really looking forward to using Studio like a camera for some of the stuff I do. I was the centaurs and expecially the horses...outstanding.  But not if I have to fight with studio for it. I will try reloading and see what happens. :)

No... there was no indication that anything failed...but I did go to the files and all the color files are exactly the same length.  I have no way of knowing if that is normal.

No they all show up in the library fine. I just reloaded the files and I can get it to work. I first had to go to Product/materials/ and then the color file i want. It wouldnt work in the library but now it is...LOL. So I lost 3 hours trying to get these to work.  But thats ok. I reallllllllllly fell in love with the centaurs and the horses. Thanks again,Carrie58.  :)

After selecting the hair in the viewport, did you also then go to the materials tab and select the hair there before applying the material preset?

Just read it as 4R10 (version 4 release 10). Hopefully makes more sense then.

...well MS did go from Win 7 to Win 8 and then directly to Win 10 skipping 9 altogether.

It's a bit silly though, IMO. 4.09 is less confusing.

Has it occurred to you that the OP might feel like you are minimizing his concerns? Or are you really having a comprende problem, hombre?

4.0 was a major rewrite of DAZ Studio, which broke many plugins. Some were never rewritten for the new plugin SDK; I don't think DAZ is wanting to do that again, and is currently working with 4.11 in their private development tree. Will we eventually see a 5.0? Maybe.

Imagine if they released 5.0 and it broke GenX... :(

I have absolutely no doubt we will eventually see a 5.0, but I expect Daz to put it off as long as they possibly can, possibly even a bit longer.  Specifically because of how much will break with a full SDK rewrite, which I think is the only thing that will push them to a full new version number.  But everything has to progress, and there will eventually be a new hotness that they need to add to the program that will require a core rewrite of the software.  I'm actually mildly surprised Dforce didn't, to be honest with you.

Or then 4.10 and 4.11 and so on. It's not a decimal number, it's <major version>.<minor version>, and the minor version can be as high as you want...
