Doesn't any male character ever get a clean shave around here?

The introductory Edward 8 Pro Bundle deal was too good to pass up, but it seems he's permanently afflicted with stubble, like so many other DAZ male characters. I have fairly thick, bristly whiskers myself (I'm a guy, btw) but I can get a clean shave when I really want to.
Sometimes stubble is appropriate to a character or a situation, and sometimes it isn't. I'd like to know if there's a way to get rid of it when it isn't appropriate (e.g. close-up of Edward as a doctor advising a patient).

The Kaleb texture is clean shaven. And I think the Finn texture is as well, though in his promos he's wearing fiberhair stubble.
Thanks for pointing those out, but no one should have to buy more products just to get rid of a five o'clock shadow when it isn't wanted. I don't understand why both options weren't included in the original.
[ edit: Finn is likewise afflicted, though not as noticeably, and the Kaleb textures make Ed look at least 10 years younger, which kind of defeats the purpose I had in mind for him. ]
Heh. maybe Edward just doesn't have a very good razor.
There is only what 5 male skin resources? Probably were seeing the same ones over an over
It's the reason I ignored everyone but Finn, in the Edward bundle and the reason I bought none of the Owen bundle.
Maybe the long coat outfit should have clued me in. If the aim was to make Ed look like a rubbie*, that might explain both the whiskers and those ridiculous holes-in-the-knees pants. I had hoped to use him as a college prof, but I'll probably end up returning him on account of the whiskers. Even college profs shave every once in a while.
* Possibly a regional expression. In Western Canada, a 'rubbie' is a derelict, typically one so destitute and depraved that he'll drink rubbing alcohol when nothing else is available.
Or doesn't stand close enough to it when he shaves.
When I saw the holes in the knees of the pants I thought "Wow, I haven't done that since my early 20's"....lol. That was, ahem, a VERY long time ago. LOL

We are (and, yes, only five), but Daz doesn't generally use those for the named main line characters, or at least has not in the past. Finn and Kaleb use those resources -- I'm kind of sure which ones (but not entirely) -- Edward himself should not.
I suspect that skins for the main characters are reused cross generations but not always on the same characters. I’ve noted similarities in some of them.
The skin looks really good otherwise. If I want to send him camping with the wife & kids it'll do just fine, but as it is this is a real show-stopper. I have to ask "What were they thinking? Were they watching too many old re-runs of Miami Vice?" I only hope there's a remedy in the works.
Unlikely. They never fixed Darius 7s painted on mustache. It is possible someone will make an overlay that hide it but the store tends to not update male items and this isn’t a mistake it was a design decision probably on the photo reference.
Hi - All it takes a bit of Photoshop proficiency to give him a shave - I also use this when I dress a character like that in a shirtless and/or lion cloth covered legs and his legs look like he has never been outside of his Mom's basement - I have to add a bit of age and dirty look.
But giving him a shave is rather easy fix.
It is if you own or subscribe to Photoshop and are willing & able to take the time and trouble to fix what shouldn't have been broke. This stubble thing seems a strange decision on DAZ's part: introducing a major character that has only limited usability. Hell, the 'Anatomical Elements' textures allow you to turn him into either a Jew or a Gentile, why not add a 'rubbie or respectable' option?
@Blind Owl "Hell, the 'Anatomical Elements' textures allow you to turn him into either a Jew or a Gentile,"
Really? Any other interesting preconceptions and generalities you want to share?
"close-up of Edward as a doctor advising a patient)." Never seen a doctor at the end of a shift?
Michael 8 is clean shaven.
Oh, yes, certainly. For example, I've said before that I thought that the Rob Elite M4 resources were reused for Darius 7 After all, they paid for the high definition full body scans in the Mil4 generation; it would be strange not to reuse those if they could. Those and whatever internal resources they've come up with besides those. They just don't use the vendors' mercant resource kits for the named characters.
Well, not everyone has the tools and skills for that, after all. I've done that once before, and really don't want to ever do it again -- not least because doing it well means that you're crossing surface zones between face and torso for some male characters when the beard goes down a bit onto the neck. It's very easy to have very visible discontinuities there. There's a recent character elsewhere that I decided not to buy because he doesn't have a clean-shaven option -- in fact, I'm pretty sure that the source textures for him are the same as the one that I corrected myself in a different generation -- and I just don't want to go there again.
Is it so hard to understand what I mean? I could have written 'circumcised/uncircumsized' instead but decided to assume a joking tone, knowing as well as you do that not all males of Jewish descent are circ, just as not all male 'Gentiles' are un. And you're suggesting that if I want to portray my hypothetical doctor at the start of a shift I should buy Michael 8?
[ edit/afterthought: For all I know, there may be the odd clean-shaven rubbie lying in a gutter somewhere, so that was an unjustifiable generalization. ]
Yea, that was a turn off for me. I have to admit, I like Eward as a shape but that choice of modeling on the pants of that clothing set was not a favorite of mine. I know folks probably get tired of transmapped stuff but holy pants and shirts are not anything that I gravitate towards.
As for smooth shaves, I'm sure there are other skins out there that are smooth from Generation 3 and probably 8 for what your looking for Blind Owl.
Interesting. Yes why waste a fantastic skin like that, anyway? Yes. We know tha Raiya made the last generation, and this generation has a new sculptor I do feel I've seen Gianni a bit in some of the lighter skinned characters.... But... Who knows
I don't mind the stubble versus the shiny skin. Sometimes I borrow stubble from another character because so many of the young male faces just don't look lived in, and I'm not fond of the cleft in the chin. But, I agree, perhaps it should have been an option. It's the hair options that are bothering me for Edward 8. Most of them have too much hair, mature men I've seen rarely have a fluffy shock of hair. The side parted hair is better but still rather fluffy. I have Riccardo but the baldness there is almost too bald. I'm also working on a mature, professorial character.
As a former rubbie who NEVER shaved, I resent that remark!
Although it can be too "boofy" for most characters, Miles hair can look quite good. Riccardo looks good, but I can't get it to look right on any of my characters.
As for photoshopping the hair out? It's the PA's job to create a useable character. A group of PA's complain that male items don't sell, but they won't put the effort into creating decent options. If something similar happened with female characters, there's be an uproar.
Oh crap, I just realized I was guilty of another bit of stereotyping, defining a rubbie as someone so "destitute and depraded that he'll drink etc." Didn't mean to insult any female rubbies (or former rubbies) who, of course, wouldn't need to shave.
Depends on how you feel about armpits. :P
Close enough for you?
They don't "complain that male items don't sell"; they state, when people complain about a lack of male items, that "male items don't sell as well as female items'. There is a big difference, and simply providing additional options that customers say they want may not be enough to compensate for the time put into them, if in fact a particular product needs them. I'm sure SickleYield or Dogz/Zev0 can confirm that, for the body morph and other utility products they make, the female versions outsell the male versions, and to what approximate percentage the difference is.
generally, imho, if there is a version offering face hair, even stubble, clean shaved options should be included. the other way around is easier, it's not that hard to add a prop or a layer on smooth skin, you can't force PAs to create hairy dudes. but i can understand not everyone wants to clone off stubble and staches from their main (and unique) face texture - i don't particularly.
not just according to personal tastes - let's say someone wants to not just make isolated renders, but a series of renders or a comic, featuring the (obviously same) guy/figure they really like at various moments of the day or in different situations. rubbie/rugged look might be great for mountain hikes and afterbenders or whatever fashion or life phases - less when he happens to also work in a corporate office, or needs to look very neat for whatever reason..
i'd add body hair to the nice to have choices too, however i consider it more like part of a figure's character, while beard grows daily...
That's exactly what I wanted to use Edward for: a series of renders covering various times and situations. I've tried several other skins on him (for both G8 and G3) but they all change his appearance, turning him into someone else entirely and not the character I bought. What's worse, the stubble is visible at a distance, not just in close-ups.
