Is there any way to shorten the time it takes the DIM to open?

I'm aware that the monumental time it takes for the DIM to open is a result of it parsing my 10,000+ manifest files.  I have the DIM (and manifest files) installed/located on my SSD.  It still takes upwards of 3 minutes to open.  That's longer than it takes my PC to boot -- almost twice as long, actually.  Is this just something I need to live with? Can I do anything else to speed it up?

    Probably not, since it's quite likely that it's checking to see if there are updates to any of your content during that time. I think mine takes about that long to start.

    They probably should go with storing those Manifests in a separate dB and have DIM tell it to export the contents of the dB everytime you exit DIM in the same format they are now. They should be quite a bit faster than reading all the manifests off of disk and parsing them.

    Mine takes ages too. I notice that it reads and updates almost every .dsx file in the downloads library (although it doesn't actually seem to change anything in 99.99% of them) which must be a waste of time, but I suppose that is a design feature. The only good thing is that starting it a second time is a lot quicker.

    You can select to work offline if you only want to install something you have previously downloaded or if you want to uninstall something. You won't see any newly purchased items when you are offline.

    Well, thanks anyway!  Here's hoping that maybe the DIM will get an overhaul someday.

    Still better than installers!!

    I just moved my DIM folder from an internal drive to an external USB drive and my startup time increased significantly - I'm of the impression that DIM is walking the complete directory and cross-matching it to the install manifests looking for updated products.

    So - if you have the money you could probably speed up the start by putting your download directory on n SSD. I'd need a 2 TB SSD, so kind of not happening here. :-)

    I sometimes watch the Task Manager to see what is going on when I start DIM. It scans all installation manifests (on local hard drive) and runs through the entire download folder (on an external drive, finally updated to USB 3, so it goes faster), updating most of the .dsx files. (It seems to leave out a specific subset that might be inactive products, or very old orders, but I haven't checked that out). No way to avoid it, I suppose, unless there is a fundamental change to the cross-checking. Still takes about 7 minutes for >10K products, so I don't exit or refresh more than necessary. If I do, I'll go get another coffee and check the e-mail.

    Mine takes only about a minute, with 13.000 products, on an old system with HDDs - manifest files on system disk and download folder on another disk. But maybe it depends on how much you have installed, currently only about 3.500 items here and so only manifest files for these.

    I launch it then do something else. A watched pot never boils and a watched DIM takes forever to open.
