OH NO - V4/M4 have finally passed from my runtime.

I was using V4/M4 exculsively in Poser. Started , finally, to actually learning DS maybe a year ago. I had tried it many times previosuly but did not like it at all, and for some time couldn't even get anything to render... wow...
But now, using DS, and G3 mainly, I cannot use V4 anymore. There is a huge sale now, but the product promo images overall just make them look very old. maybe its the fact I've been looking at those prmo images for a long time.
There are a lot of V4 characters bering released in the PC+. I don't even like how they look, but do understand they often look better rendered, but my interest in V4/M4 products appears to be over. The fresh new stuff has caught my eye.
Its been a very long run. V4 was released in 2006 ... a bit over 11 years ago.
I weep for her demise in my runtime.

there are a lot of props though scifi gear, helicoptors, flak guns, accoustic guitar with strap, steampunk weapong and some scene props
@daveso - A lot of V4/M4 clothes autofit pretty well (just a little smoothing or such if needed), and the V4/M4 character textures can work very well on G2, G3, and even G8 (with a little work.) Don't drop a lot of the really good V4/M4 products.....they can still bring a lot to your G2/G3/G8 renders.
I never did really like V4/M4 so my credit card gets a huge break today ;). It's been smoking ever since yesterday and Edward 8. LOL

I never liked m4s hands for some reason, the fingers are sausagey. I bought him for his skins and outfits but I stopped using him and v4 a while ago.
I'm on the other side of the spectrum... I've found that the latest couple of wrinkles in DAZ tech have really improved the look of a lot of the older gen stuff so much that I've started using it again. Pop the basic iray shader on a lot of Poser clothing and sets and they often look much better than they did originally, and hitting the v4 and even v3 generations of skins with NGS2 Annagennesis can yield stuning results. Now that we finally have a working in-DS dynamic clothing solution, it's fixxing a lot of the trouble I had with the fit and drape of the older gen clothing, and if you're willing to put in a little time with some shader packages you can get some really amazing results on clothes, sets and even hair. Really, about the only thing I still have major issues with is footwear.
I am in the same boat daveso. I have a ton of V4/M4 items and rarely use them anymore. I even load up old scenes and see if I can revive them with Iray and they just look dated, especially the figures.V4 will always have a special place in my heart er runtime, but it's time to move on.
I have fun converting older stuff to Iray ready. Well, I did before I became a vendor - now I just don't have the time to work with the Iray settings and such to get as much realism as possible from those older products. I found that tons of fun though. Maybe someday I'll have the time to do that again. lol For now I'm having fun snagging the older stuff when it's crazy cheap - hopefully I can find the time to transfer them to Iray to justify the purchases. lol
I HAVE found that some of the older hair actually doesn't look so bad when shaded with updated shaders and settings. And some of the older clothing actually looks pretty decent. And now that we have dForce that seems to open up more possibilities for some of the older clothing.
..If you have Slosh's UHT2 Shaders it breathes new life back into those older hairs and makes it easier to convert them for Iray. One I have been using a lot is April's Osean Hair for my Leela character and with UHT2 it looks great in Iray.
I can relate. I spent 9 years with Aiko 3 and finally put her away a year after Genesis 2 came out. Now G3F is my main girl.
I just started in December '17 and thought it'd be okay to concentrate on G3 and G8, but since that deal started today I found quite a lot of (cheap enough) stuff to spend some money on, so Vicky will make a few appearances on special occasions.
Getting a 90% reduction was just too tempting..
I still love Genesis and wish more could be done to use later stuff with it
I certainly use all my V4 and M4 stuff on it
it is to me the most versatile figure male, female, creatures etc morphable on one mesh and could be shown more HD love too
I'm mainly using Genesis 3 now, but I keep the Gen(eration)-4 runtime as a lot of the clothes autofit well and I don't have equivalents. There are also a load of props and hair that just need positioning.
And every once in a while I break out the Gen(eration)-3 runtime for certain styles (especially Aiko/Hiro 3)
If you get Wear Them All you should be able to use most V4/M4 clothing and hair items on G3. :) You could then save them as a "wearable preset" if you wanted to use the items on G8 as well.
I still use everything from Genesis to Genesis 8. It's just V4 and M4 that I don't really use much at all anymore. Because I never really cared for either one, I never got much for them. Now, I had TONS and TONS of stuff for V3, M3, David 3, Steph 3 and Aiko 3. Before that, I had oodles of stuff for Posette and Dork.
I just realized I've been doing this stuff way, way too long. LOL

I just started two years ago and I love V4. A TON of stunning textures when convereted and if I really want to get the most out of them I convert them up to g3 and g8. Best of both worlds.
..I still have a soft spot for Aiko 3 and the original Sadie.
I switched to Daz studio after I got Iclone for animation
and GenX 2 to move my favorite V4/M4 shapes up to Genesis 1-2
with this I Stopped using poser pro 2014 and the mill4 figures completely.
However I still use the V4 "Vanilla sky" & "Horizon" textures
(Syyd raven) on the G2 Female
and the Mike4" Sol elite" textures on the G2 male.
I never liked how V4 or even Genesis 1 looked, so didn't buy em back when they were new.
Having said that, there are a number of the textures that work very well on G3 and 8. I've only returned 3 out of (well not hundreds) but over a hundred I expect of those I've tried converting.
That's Pabu, although I've adjusted the skin to give it some mottleing/veining, and to make the skin paler; have also customised the face somewhat for this render
I don't think I can ever retire my V4 runtime. I just have too much unique stuff that is still useful on later generations. And I feel SAV's hairs are still among the best quality out there, especially with Iray shaders.
I've been slowly recreating my old V4 serial characters with G8, so I'll probably very seldom use V4 herself now. But with a few fixing morphs and new shaders, she still can shine.
i tried to fit some older V4-M4 stuff on G2 and G3 yesterday when I saw that 90% off sale ... figured I had all weekend to experiment, but none of the stuff would fit at all. How you fitting stuff to newer figures?
DAZ saved me a lot of money again by ending the sale two days early though.
I don't use V4 or M4 themselves. Too clunky, clothes don't ever fit morphs (and to do so, I have to jump through hoops. No thanks), and it takes forever for them to load up with morphs and stuff.
At most, I'll buy characters I like for them and transfer them via GenX to Genesis 3. With UV transfer systems and Iray shaders now, I can still find use for clothes, props, hair, etc. The addition of dForce has also made using old Poser dynamics a lot easier (compared to dumping them in Marvelous Designer and then having things fall apart or act as one giant piece of cloth), too.
Do you have autofit V4 clones for the later figures? Like the "Wear Them All" products?

no ..i will check them out. thanks for the link
I switched to Studio from Poser not long after it was released and kept my V4-M4 runtime. Because this is just a hobby for me, I can't justify the expense of a new character and her wardrobe every two years. My hobby money goes into my vintage car. For me, Vicky Four still looks fine and all the Genesis figures together don't have anywhere near the wide selection of clothing that Vicky has. I don't use fantasy, Sci-Fi or skimpwear so there's little being produced these days that would entice me to move to a newer figure. Because vicky has been around for so long, there's a ton of excellent free stuff available. I do use Iray and am learning to make my own shaders. As others have pointed out, Iray can make older stuff look spectacular.
