The forum is full of posts complaining that the user(s) can't find their product in Smart Content. To my thinking, that suggests that Smart Content isn't too smart. Just a thought from someone that considers Smart Content useless. YMMV

  • I am curious why this free converter is not commerical use? Does this mean poses I convert with it are not usable in scenes commercially?

For scripts it typically means you can't copy the scripts and then turn around and package them for resale in the DAZ 3D Store or elsewhere. That actually happens quite frequently and lots of freebie open source developers don't like it.

However, the pose is the pose so the converted pose falls under the same license terms as the original pose, they legally can't restict you there when a license already in place for the pose.

This is not correct. Non-commercial means non-commercial, it has nothing to do with licensing derivatives or allowing redistribution. It's true that soem people do (incorrectly) use non-commercial to mean no redistribution, butt hat cannot be assumed sicne it is not what the words actually mean. Whether the author intended to prohibit all commercial use of the output, including in renders, or whether they simply  meant to prohibit its use for converting pose packs for resale, or even used the term as you suggest, only the author can say - the question really needs to be addressed there.

  • If it's a simple matter of pose conversion...and with there some many other options out there that can be used commercially...what would be the point of using a utility thats free other than you don't want to pay for a pose converter?  While I'm sure this free utility is great...there are other ways of converting poses.

    Just my two cents.

I just went back to what I used before. It is essential to convert v4 m4 poses accurately and so I will just use my old and slow method since it seems reliable.

V4/M4 do not have the same bone nodes as G2/G3/G8.  So no pose converter is going to do a perfect job.  If a decent one at that.

I don't even use poses from V4/M4 anymore.  Most poses for the Genesis series are updated versions to some degree.

    Sadly so.

I have pretty good luck converting v4 and m4 poses using the conversion tool here, v4 to Genesis 2 female pose converter https://www.daz3d.com/v4-pose-converter-for-genesis-and-genesis-2-female-s

    so why limit yourself?

I have to adjust poses for Genesis characters as well, no conversion tool works perfectly, but it’s pretty easy to make minor corrections and resave. Especially when there really is a lot more variety in poses and they can be bought cheaply...

This goes back to my original statement about obsessing over a pose converter tool that free but you can't use it "commercially" versus something that cost less than 20 bucks (or even less if it's caught in a sale) and you can use the poses however you want.

Besides, just how many superhero poses are there anyway?  lol.

That’s a wee bit condescending don’t you think? wink The reason I was curious about the tool is that it is a multiple step process to convert to g8. The tool purports to be a single step. That would save me time and the converter tool is slow.

And sadly there aren’t really a lot of male male poses for gen 8. Converting them from m4 is often the only options I have since daz store and rendo only have a few.

If you took my comment as condescending, that was not the intent.  So I apologize.  I think my point was the comment about worrying whether or not you can use a pose converted by a free tool if the stipulations for said tool is that it's for non-commercial use.  If anything does the job, I'm all for it, but nothing should bar you from producing great art and selling it like whether or not the pose can be used commercially.

No problem. wink I hope a one step solution is made at some point. That was the only reason I as interested in the free tool.

  • What about V4 clothing to G8F? I have SO much amazing V4 stuff I want to use.

Just got the hair converter haven't tried it yet...

I have to adjust G8 poses on G8 characters so it's not like converting old poses to G8 is actually saving time. The ones I want I can copy from the icon faster when the case is that I actually want to use it.
