Moose on the loose in front of the hoose.
Neat! I've never seen a real live moose on the loose.
HUGE
Wow, one of my planned vacations is to go see wild moose. I've finally seen wild bear on the loose. And a wild bobcat. And wild elk is once again in my area but I haven't seen it yet. It's not as easy to see these big wild animals in the eastern US as it is in the west. For most of my childhood and much of my adulthood even seeing a wild white-tailed deer was rare. I didn't see any in the wild until the 2000s.
I would love to see a moose, but unfortunately there are none in these parts (Pennsylvania, US). I've seen black bear lots of times and we're polluted with deer where I live in the south central portion. I've even seen the occasional red fox and coyote, but no moose :( And right now, on February 21st, 2018, it is 76 degrees outside. I have the windows open. If I close my eyes, I could swear it was early summer. There are bugs outside. Three days ago it was snowing. Wild...lol.
;)

No moose (mooses? mousse?) where I llive. Would be pretty cool to see one in the wild though.
Am guessing Bullwinkle on TV doesn't count. ; )
Amazing animals!! I almost got run over by one many years ago. I didn't realize how huge they are until I was looking up at her undersid as she ran by.
well. we do have deer aorund here - warning signs on the road that goes up the hill from here. we have a good pack of coyotes, I have seen bear tracks in the park across the river and we have the occasional cougar. Plenty of beaver and there are osprey and bald eagles that patrol the river.. Out in the mountains we ran across a grizzly once..
Yummy... very tasty them Mooses.. we ain't got any wild ones running around here in Germany, but there's lots of them in Sweden and Norway, and they export them as ham and steaks and for a good roast.
True..we had a friend who was a hunter, and his moose sausage was excellent..

Well, as I was driving home from the dentist yesterday (the other six, or so, are off camera to the right)...
I figure a moose would be more noticeable, from a distance.

Meeces?
Nothing so spectacular here, but this afternoon we got our first visit of the year from a fox (not entirely sure it's always been the same one). I just looked out the kitchen window, and there was a curled-up ball of orange fluff, fast asleep in an overgrown bit of the garden. I looked again half an hour later and it was gone. Not exactly lively, but I do sometimes see it wake up, scratch, yawn and saunter across the garden to the next best sunny spot...
... then plop down and doze off again.
I'm pretty sure that when you're driving where moose live you rarely see them in the distance, they just kinda pop out of the forest right next to the road or from behind a giant rock and decide to amble across the road at the most inopportune time.
And they pay no attention to the "Moose Crossing" signs and cross anywhere they want to. Kind of like people on the streets of Toronto!
Yah, plural is meece. I was exciting when I found out there in a community nearby called Meece but I found out it was named after a family's surname and not meece.
the plural or moose is moose, not meece, LOL
haven't seen a moose up close in real life, but seens lots of images from a friend up in Alaska sitting near his car which was tiny compared to the big bull.
Are meeces mooses or are mouses meeces? So confusing... ;)
I have to admit, I did have moose meat once in my life. I thought it was very "tallow-y". Didn't care for it. LOL I'd rather look at a live one than eat a dead one :P

Very cool photos reminds me of home., when I lived in Maine years ago we use to have moose walk across our property to get to black stream in the front of our house, they are huge . most car accidents happen with them at night because their fur is so dark, when traffic accidents happen with a Moose its usually deadly because they come crashing through your windshield . since i moved to Tennessee we have much small animals here, all we see here is Deer, Bears and lots of huge Skunks. ors is that Pole-cat ..lol
we get regular front yard visits from these fellas... but never mooses
Dang..Ha HA Look Paw its a giant Jack Rabbit
What do you feed them critters
By the looks of that trail, hacsart, I'd say that they must be frequent visitors. Hereabouts it is rare for them to wander into town. I can only recall once in all the time I have lived here. The deer actually congregate in town, especially in winter, but you need to go outside town if you want to see a moose. And yes, they are big. I came up over the brow of a hill once in the bush and there was a big bull standing about six meters away. It just stood there looking at me for awhile before trotting off, which was pretty unusual - normally they would hear you coming and be gone before you even know they were there. You are more likely to see them along the road when you are driving than encounter them in the bush.

Some nice pics here;)
That trail is one some local hikers and walkers have made.. We see them more than we do large wildlife.... There are some good wildlife trais to the west after the park ends, lots of deer track, coyote too..)
Every so often here we get a moose that follows the river dowsntream, and ends up in downtown traffic....
I can confirm the truth in that. A funny (or well, not particulary funny when it happened) thing is that the one time I actually hit one, I saw it early at a distance, loitering by the side of the road, so I slowed down as I approached. Yet, the stupid thing just had to get up on the road when I got close to it.
Something that actually was funny, was the time when I saw one cross the road right where the moose warning signpost was.
(Lastly, for the record, Torontonians aren't the only ones crossing the streets anywhere they want to. I think that is fairly globally spread behaviour)
Cool link, thanks for posting!
