I keep getting this message: data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/genesis8female.dsf when loading up a copy or a previous scene file with Genesis 8 Female in it. It's referring to Genesis 3 Female so not sure what's going on.

Did you run one of my scripts?
That's just a file path, not an error. There was a problem with soemthing pointing to the wrong folder, and calling for a file that didn't exist there - there were some threads on it which managed (as I recall) to identify the problem product.
To expand, something you added has that malformed line in it. The line is not case sensitive. So it down to change you made between the last time you loaded without the error and now. That should narrow the possible targets. If you ran my script, it experiemental and I keep find new ways it trips over itself. If you did not, then some product you added has that malformed code in at least one morph or property.
Unless you were running a script meant to do something else, I suppose.
Hmmmm, well I've been using the Hive figures so I've not been using Genesis 8 until recently and since I'm busy converting my stuff over to them I'm pretty sure I didn't cause this so not sure what to do, it's more of an annoyance than anything else. Every thing loads fine but just don't want a box popping up ever single time I load a a file or scene with her in it. This isn't happening with G8M so that's nice! lol
The technical details is that something converted has the malformed line it, most likely. When I said "you" did it, I just mean you took an action where you loaded something that has that bad data in it, not that you created the bad data. Thats why I asked if you had used my script. Because it's still alpha and buggy. It can definitely cause this.
Because of the type of malformed data something probably isn't loading, or if it is, it trying to make an ERC link and failing because of the line involving a file that does not exist.
By bringing up what you did, I only mean to give you an idea of what things you might have added that could contain the bad data. Until you find the item, you'll get the popup. You log may have warnings saying "Could not find parent" or (I think) "unable to prepare" and then give partial file path to any files at issue. Knowing which changes you made can help to use the log, and these clues to narrow down exactly which file or product is causing this. Removing the item(s) is the only way to stop the popup.
The other option is to delete the folder data/Daz 3D/Genesis 8/Female then reinstall G8F. Then add each item you added before, one at a time. Load G8F and see if you get the popup. If not, delete G8F, add the next item, Load G8F again. Proceed until the popup. When you get it, you know the last thing you added has the bad data.
There are several posts on this issue:

If I remember correctly, I think I even had that issue. I THINK what I did (if I remember correctly) is to make sure to copy the "genesis3female.dsf" file and paste it into the path it kept pointing at in the Genesis 3 folder. And did the same for the Genesis 8 path (making sure that "genesis8female.dsf" was in the right path. That got rid of the issue for me (again if I remember correctly).
What I thought the issue might be (at least in my case) is that Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 were installed into different directories. That's just a guess as to the reason for the issue. *shrug*
Hmmm, Frank suggested in the first linked thread to just reinstall Genesis 8 files.... I may do that!
Because of the way I do things, and my experience with scripting I do it's pretty safe to say it's down to a morph package. The advice in the other thread you commented in is probably good stuff. The idea of packing up a copy of the morphs folder and deleting all but the Daz 3D folder then adding them one folder at a time is a good one. It will help ID the suspect product.
Ugh, that came out wrong. It's not because I'm special or something. I just have a lot of time invested in driectly looking at the guts of dsf files. So I know there's one or more files somewhere in your G8 that have that bad line. Next to digging in the log, the advice in the thread is almost the best you can get, but there is a faster way.
Like was suggested, back up the morphs folder and then delete all but Daz 3D like before. Load G8. There should be no error. Now start putting folders back, but rather than putting them back one at a time, put half of them back.
If the error comes up on load, you know the issue definitely in that half. If it doesn't, it isn't in that half. Cut them back out and put them in a separate folder. Put the other half back. If the issue shows up, then you know it is in that half or you have more than one. If not, you know that half is clean. Rinse and repeat, moving the clean folders to a safe place. By cutting everything down by halfs, you can probably trace the source of the issue in 4 or 5 steps.
I think someone hinted at this in that thread, and it really would be faster than any other suggestion but reading the logs, though the logs are a pain of their own.
Thanks Richard, I knew I had this issue a while back. Currently following the idea of removing all the data folders from other folks for the G8F until I can lock down the culprit that's causing this constant pop up! Sorry for the double thread!
OK, found the culprit... it's from the "India's Collection" data folder. There are two character's in that folder, one is Asian and one is Indian. The Asian data is fine but the Indian one is not but not sure what to look for to fix it....
It sounds like a bad path, you probably could edit it yourself but the vendor really should do it. Is that a Daz product, a product from another store, or a freebie?
I wish I knew. But it's like a mystery folder.... came with ALLOT of nationality folders but there were only two that had any data in them, the Asian and the Indian.
Yes,
it is a 3rd party product from ShareCG. Buit the vendor seems not to be there any longer.
I have it for Ebony and Caucasian for G8F.
Simply remove those or ignore the missing file message.
Which set is it? It should be possible to give instructions (or possibly write a script) to fix the file.
Ah, ShareCG.... OK so it's a freebie. Probably just face morphs and I can do that in ZBrush. No biggie.... Thanks Andy!
ZBrush?
That's what I found in the BettyW.dsf with a normal text editor for example:

The other file "CariqueB.dsf" is crypted.
Encrypted or just compressed? Only daz can make encrypted DSON files, so I guess the latter - in which case you can use something 7Zip to uncompress, or the batch Convert pane in DS.
Oh yes,
the decompression by 7zip worked for the CariqueB (Ebony head morph).
but this seems to be OK.
