Resolved - after update, DIM is showing 1500 items for download - help request

I just updated DIM and expected to see the 12 items I've just purchased.  Instead I have over 1500 items in the download list!

I suspect that this may be due to the fact that long ago, I copied the content library from my desktop onto an external drive for my laptop.  After that date, I used DIM to keep adding content to that external drive attached to the laptop.  Perhaps the DIM update somehow is making DIM want to install the things that I had copied directly to the drive?

If that is the issue, if I simply go ahead and download, will the content just replace the old content?  If so, I might just do that.  But if it is going to give me duplicates, that is not a good way to go.  What would be the solution then?

Edit to add:  I updated DIM on the desktop and it shows about 400 items.  But in reviewing those, I see it is the items I "hid" - such as Rons brushes, or tutorials, or poser items.  Now they have reappeared.  I can easily just re-hide them, but I still have the question above regarding the laptop - will DIM overwrite or make duplicates?

  • DIM doesn't use the sntalled content to decide what it needs to download or install - it looks at the Manifests folder for installed items (which presumably isn't on the machine you didn't use to install) and, for unisntalled items, the Downloads folder to decide what needs downloading (again, presumably only on the one machine).

Thanks @RichardHaseltine.  If I go ahead and let it download, will it overwrite or will I get double installs?  If the former, I might just let it download.

  • It won't double-install, assuming the old isntall used the same content directory and you didn't move the files around.
