graffiti to wall, how?

Ok, how do i get graffiti to wall. There is decal and there is "lie". Lie is useless because of main shaders tiling. Decal is useless because i cant see the picture and cant adjust it. Every time i try it, picture is distorted mesh.

I have even tryed to make primitive and but exstra lie layer to it and tryed to make main layer invisble so only lie layer would be visible, but no, it doesnt seem to be option.

So, how do i get graffiti to wall using lie, is it even option if main shaders tiling make it look like many small graffities. Can i adjust lie layer tiling, so it would have different tiling than main shader? Can i make lie layer ignore tiling of main shader?

Or, if useing decal. How do i adjust the picture? Why a word, for example "graffiti" is one distordet mesh, or why it is different size than decal that was greated, picture should fit in it, shouldn't it? Why has it been made so that i cant see the picture?asy

Can i make invisible primitive with visible lie layer and use that, or what should i do?

This should be easy :(

  • Try switching the viewport to nVidia Iray prevbiew mode and then adjusting the decal.

If you are going to use a primitive plane, and there's no problem with that, it would need to be UV mapped to accept the image. The decal you want to show will need an alpha map to mask out the areas you want to be transparent. You'd also need to match the proportions of the decal to the primitive either by scaling the primitive, the UV map or the image scaling. Then you could align the primitive with the wall surface and bring it forward by 0.somethingsmall. If you can set the primitive plane to be invisible to the shadow pass (I'm not sure how you'd do it in DAZ) you'll be able to avoid it casting a shadow on the wall.

Thanks Richard Haseltine and polmear. So problem is mostly painful adjusting. I have to say that all the updates daz has experienced lately, this one is still out of date feature that needs updating. Putting picture or shader over another is one of the most basic things in image processing.

Maybe a year ago i was trying to put flames on a car and spend several hours with decal. I find it too hard work for so little job. Potential of decal is great put at the moment it's not very user friendly. Decal could use an update.

Lie definitely could use an update (separeta tiling for all exstra layers), or is there already that kind of product? I would find it very useful for example when puttin wallpaper for part of the wall not the whole wall.

  • One option might be to use a Geoemtry Shell, apply the add-on to that and make the offset really small.

you could use a paint program Make a copy of the original texture and blend it in using layers. Would save on memory as well as looking more natual

Haven't tried geometry shell yet, going to test it next.

Usin paint program on the other hand might not be so easy option if main texture uses tiling for example brick wall.

Ok, i tested geometry shell, and if i follow these directions i can get graffiti to the wall.

making opacity map takes couple of minutes but it's a lot faster than trying to adjust decal in it's place. And because geometry shell have it's own tiles they wont be problem anymore.

Thanks guys, i slowly reduce my nobines :)

There are a couple of products in the store that might make using decals easier, like this one. I actually bought it, but I never really used it. You can use custom decals with it, and it includes some in depth tutorials. https://www.daz3d.com/iray-decal-kit

Also worth mentioning that Kindred Arts is super helpful with questions.
