Well said, Tiffanie. This program is a gem and I use it even more often nowadays.

Can make normal maps and the other ones (Stylize filters).

If you talk to the Howler people, they will get you the update fix, no matter where you bought it, here, steam, btmicro, etc. They are very good about it.

    .....................................

I'm happy to see your enthusiasm for this gem of a program, and hope to see it used more and more, especially considering it's price in comparison to PS and some of the others out there, that don't do as much.

Thanks Tiffanie. It does seem to be a great program. However, I don't do much 2D painting and my main use for Howler is terrain generation. So, I really would like to export the texture maps as ell as the object file.

When asked if an upgrade from Howler 11.1 to Howler ll.2b was available, the response I got from Phillip  was that he is 'working with Daz to get 11.2b there, but don't have an ETA yet.'. There was no real indication if it would be an update to the current product or would require a seperate purchase and no offer of a discount to get Howler 11.2b from their site. So, I can't decide if I should keep 11.1 or return DAZ to DAZ and wait for 11.2b

  • Here are a couple of screen shots of the export menu. Also, While it's not a one stop import, you can already import the texture into Daz. Create the terrain with texture. Export the obj. Swap the buffer and save the terrain texture map as a jpg. Import the new terrain object. Then go to the diffuse and find the saved terrain jpg. Viola! your obj is textured. Hope that helps.

oh, that's interesting. So you CAN make normal maps in Dogwaffle?  Are they well made?  Thinking about having another source to generate them for my human maps I make....

It does make nice normal maps, as far as I can tell. I don't use normal maps enough to be a huge judge on that, but I'm using a set that I made in PD Howler for a set of outfit textures that I'm working on for Dawn.

Update: I got another email from Phillip that referenced the Steam  update. I installed it and although I have only done a quick check it seems to be working for me.

Update: Correspondence with the Project Dogwaffle people indicates there is a bug with Howler 11.2 and 11.2b would be required instead.

Hi, indeed, 11.2 was no good. 11.2b is good. We have been working with Daz to get it to the store in replacement of Howler 11.1 - so please check in your Product Gallery if you can download the new 11.2b now. I've been told today it was done, but haven't been able to ceck for myself.

It now shows a download for PD Howler 12.1b - powered by Project Dogwaffle: Paint, Motion, 3D and fun with pixels  87.65 MB

So I guess they got the update but labled it wrong when putting it up.

  • The 11.2b version of Howler should be there now. The product description added this Note:  (with a typo: 12.1b should read as 11.2b :-)  )

Anyway, both the 11.1 full installer and 11.2b full installers are available for download. Try the latest 11.2b, if it doesn't work your system may still run v11.1

    Notes

    • This product includes:
      • 2 General Installer
    • This product includes versions 12.1b as well as 11.1. 12.1b may not work on all systems, if it does not run on your system you should use 11.1.

The download is mis-labeled as 12.1, not 11.2 - but the zip downloaded is 11_2_RC_094-DAZ.zip; I'll have to wait til I get home to check further.

That was this mornings alternative/quick fix indeed :-)   Should no longer be needed as an update, as you should have at your disposal the download of the full installer for Howler 11.2b now

    Cheers!

  • He beat me to it! I was just going to say that the 11.2B was now available for those who recently purchased 11.1

    Thanks Staigerman!

Below are an example of images generated in PD Howler: fractal and its normal map.

I have also made an example iray render in Daz Studio, utilized similar maps made in PD Howler.

    Cool, thanks folks!  :-)

  • Nice job Artini!

The Landscape Tutorial is supposed to be coming out on DAZ within the next week, and I'm gearing up for another live webinar in December covering postwork techniques using Howler. If folks have questions that they would like to see answered on that subject, let me know! And if it's something that I'm not planning to cover in the webinar, I'll answer them here, or in the PD Howler forum in the Carrara forum (please do join us there!) or on the PD-Project Dogwaffle Forum on Facebook. Or the PD Howler forum on HiveWire. Or my YouTube Channel "Immortal Moments Arts", PD Howler is spreading it's influence....bwahahahah! Staigerman and Dartanbeck (and Artini) are awesome at answering questions, too!

you don't need one for this program .

Glad I picked this one up. I've been reading and watching lots of tutorials and spent yesterday evening playing with features. The PuppyRay render is very fast for me (and I have a very low-powered GPU).

I had one problem - the installer hung for me (I had to cancel it through Task Manager). I read on the website that it was advised to remove any previous versions first, so I uninstalled the free "Home" edition I had installed before and then it all worked fine. If anyone else has a similar problem, that may be the cause.

Another webinar coming up! use "postwork10" to get a discount.  It doesn't matter which render engine you use, this is about postwork of the image in PD Howler. If you aren't interested, please spread the word! Sorry, that's GMT, they always do an update with the conversions later, I think it's about 2pm Central time.? 12pm Pacific? 1pm Mountain, and 3pm Eastern.

    Thanks!

PS. has anyone else tried the techniques from the previous webinar? And I've been told that the recording will be on the DAZ store sometime this week.

Yes, I picked it up. I think this is going to be a great product. So glad you joined the discussion and really dropped some important links and information.

  • Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  • My webinar tutorial on making landscapes in PD Howler has been released in the DAZ shop for those who want more instructions.  I also have a Live webinar with Digital Art Live tomorrow on Post Work techniques in PD Howler, for those interested.

  • Just picked up the landscape webinar. Hope the post work webinar will also be offered in the shop as well
  • It will be offered at DAZ store, too.

For anyone who still wants to sign up for the webinar today: last chance to attend live! https://digitalartlive.com/event/20-powerful-postwork-procedures-with-pd-howler/

  • Well, do to technical difficulties, the webinar has been rescheduled to March 3, so there is still time to register if you want!

  • Anyone interested in 2d Painting landscapes using PD Howler, or even other 2d software, I have another webinar Tutorial coming up for that. Hope to see folks there.
