New DIM update questions

With the new DIM update, I am now able to add my other 3D programs into the Application section. This is great! I like this thing better every day.
One set of questions though — What are the Recommended Content Folder locations for:
Hexagon Content?
Bryce Content?
Carrara Content?

Also, where do I direct it to put Photoshop Bridge? — I have Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop Elements 8 and it can't seem to find either one.

You don't need to specify a content folder for Bryce or Carrara -- DIM looks at the Settings > Applications tab for the location of Bryce and Carrara and installs their content to the appropriate subfolder.

Not sure which versions the Photoshop Bridge works with.

The PS Bridge is CS4+, I think.

I installed photoshop cs6 today, but now that i am trying to install the bridge for photoshop I get this information... and I'm a bit at loss as to where they want me to look and what they want me to do (I know, I suck when it comes to knowing the right places.. always have, probably always will ;P)

Install Manager cannot find a required path. The installer for "Photoshop 3D Bridge for DAZ Studio 4.5+ (Win 64-bit)" requires that the installed path for "Photoshop CS6;CS5;CS4 (64-bit)" be defined. Make sure that a path for this application is present on the "Applications" page of the "Settings" dialog, then try again.

Click on the cog wheel in the upper right hand corner. Click on the applications tag and add the path to Photoshop.

Thank you *offers a big cake with a sheepish smile* That particulary thing didn't even occur to me.... *blushes* That leads to another question though, if my photoshop gets upgraded (like in a week or so when it updates to CC) do I have to change the path or will it be automatically?

To my knowledge you'll need to change it

I have a question as well.

Before the update DIM would install my Genesis characters to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4. Now it refuses to do that and wants to install everything to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. Is there no way around this? Or do I now have to move all of my Genesis stuff from the old directory to the new?

You can add install locations, although installing content to Program Files is not recommended. If you had DIM set up with that path before it should still be in your list of install locations.

The option is there, but when I try to do an install of a new character to that preset the install fails. It will only accept the "Recommended DAZ Studio/Poser Content Folder", which is the C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library directory.

What Operating System? Win7/8/Vista protect the Program Files hierarchy.

This is Windows 7 (64 bit).

I've been installing to the directory I mentioned on this computer for over two years, so it isn't specifically anything to do with Windows 7. Something has changed with the update to DIM. DAZ may have made the change due to the recommendations for Windows 7, but Windows 7 itself has never forbidden the installs to the C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 directory.

Amusingly enough, I only install the Genesis stuff to the C:Program Files directory, because in the past, the installers refused to allow me to put Genesis characters on my G: drive where all the rest of my content is located. The installers insisted that the Genesis content go where DS4 was installed, so I let it default to where it wanted to put stuff. Now it's wanting to default to a different spot; a more logical spot, granted, but totally different from where all the other Genesis stuff is (including the base figure).

I'm just wondering if there is a way around this, or am I going to have to delete all the previously installed content, download it again, and reinstall it to the "new" location. I'm just being lazy, I know, but I have a crap load of content.

What messages does DIM give when you try to install to that location?

As I recall, DS4.0 required Genesis morphs to be in the same content folder as the base, so if that was where you installed the default content before, the installers would have required it. Are you still using DS4.0?

Yes, if you are using Windows Vista, or higher, Program Files is protected, somewhat, and won't, or shouldn't, allow anything that rewrites an existing Program File without a proper form, written on sheepskin, signed in triplicate, wrinkled, spattered with coffee stains, and located in "...a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ' Beware of the Leopard.'"*

You may need to invoke Window's DEP, or have administrator rights (which are hardly considered positive proof that you have the right to do anything to your own computer), or go through a series of copying and pasting files into new folders of identical names and permissions as the ones already there, which you have to cut and paste out of Program Files to start with.

The easiest method is to use the Public Documents option or any other Folder of your choosing which is 'not' within the Windows 'so-called' protected folder collection. Then it will work perfectly.

By the way, Studio still lists its main Content Library as C:\Users\username\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library which DIM insists is C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library so you have at least two options DIM will readily accept for your stuff.

The only message that it posts is "Failed" under the Status heading.

I've been running DS4.5. I just upgraded to 4.6 today. It doesn't appear that it altered where it installed the Genesis base content - it put it in the same People folder within the directory of DS4 itself. I don't know why it would do that if it won't allow any other content to be installed to that same locale.

On the subject of Photoshop Bridge, I ended up listing every possible Folder connection I could imagine (even forcing DIM to accept a 32 bit folder as a 64 bit application) before it finally "worked". I then promptly decided to unplug that plugin anyway as every time I add an item to a scene, it automatically switches the view to 3D Bridge Camera which is a Front view. This makes tiny detail manipulation (such as finger placement) a veritable nightmare of switching cameras and trying to maintain your imaginative flow to keep in touch with your ideas for the scene.

I severely dislike Photoshop. Any chance anyone could design a Studio Bridge for Paint Shop Pro?

In the log, does it say anything other than "Install Failed"?

Try copying (so as not to lose) and pasting your content directly from your G drive, to the Public Documents location. then fire up Studio to see if it works there (it should). Once you have it all copied there, you may delete the originals (if you have space issues) or keep them as backup copies.

The G drive shouldn't be an issue, but you could move the content from Program Files to the G drive.

Ah, I may have an explanation: the original DIM release (1.0.0.112) always ran as Administrator, while the new version (1.0.1.59) does not. Try closing DIM and running as Administrator.

That works as well so long as your system will allow it (which it should, unquestioningly, but we are talking about Windows). ;-)

Ah, that sounds plausible. Thank you, I will give that a go.

Okay, I just tried it and running the program as Administrator and that was the answer to my problems. Huge thank you!
