MBR a mess..... HELP!

OK, so far no BSoD after basically taking my machine apart and reseating all my hardware, blowing it out and then taking some drives out and putting my two external backup drives in as internal ones but now my boot file is messed up so I have to F12 every time I book in, but I kinda figured this would happen.

I went into the BIOS and looked for my SSD drive, it's not there but it is there because I'm using it as my C drive for Windows.

I've tried Googling the needed fix but the posts are ages old.  I'm running Windows 10 Creators Edition

There was one that suggested that I use the Command Prompt and Bootrec.exe tool. Not found on my system so now what do I do to get this machine of mine auto booting to my SSD drive again? It's always something! lol

Any help?  Thanks!

There used to be a simple way, when needed, to fix/rebuild the MBR (Master Boot Record), but I have a sneaking suspicion that is now, like a lot of my PC knoweldge, woefully out of date.  Having said that, however, a quick google showed this - I have no clue if it is what you need otr not, or even if valid!

  • I would go to a Windows 10 user forum for answers to this problem. I sounds like you may have changed the order of the drives and the registry can't find files. I would suggest going to a windows forum and see if they can help.

I found a work around.  I went into the BIOS and under some hidden menu I found a full list of HD's that the system detected.  They were all enabled but the SSD drive was second, hence why the system couldn't find the boot record I guess.  SO I just disabled the other two drives and the SSD drive with Windows 10 on it was pushed to the #1 slot and boots in perfectly now!  :-)
