Iray viewport slow to render

I think I have messed up my Daz Studio settings somehow.

I was running 4.9 and everything was working well, but I had been experimenting with settings.

Now, when switching from Texture mode in Viewport to Iray rendered mode, it is extremly slow to switch the viewport over. The progress bar cycles nearly 5 times. Orbiting the camera works fine.  But if I switch back to Texture mode, then back to Iray mode, it again takes 60-90 seconds to draw and the Progress bar cycles 5 times.

I'm using Photoreal mode.

Nvidia GTX 950 for my monitor only.

Nvidia GTX 1060 for renders.

I tried updating to version 4.10 but had the same issue.

I then trired to do a Clean Install (though I'm not sure I accomplished that), but still have the same issue.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you

  • Load the default render settings and try again.

Then again, scene complexity determines render time.

You might get a little faster results with Interactive mode.

Also restart DS once in a while, your buffer's probably clogged with textures from the previous scene or scene elements you've deleted.

  • Thank you for suggestions.

Yes, I have tried resetting to defaults, even going as far as completely uninstalling DAZ Studio and Install Manager, and manually deleting files and folders and re-installing.

I'm not getting a "clean" install however, as some of my setting are still there after the re-install.

Does anyone have a workflow on complete uninstall?

I am also thinking it may have something to do with my GPU or it's drivers and will try and roll back drivers, but I don't think that is the problem.

    Thank you

  • At last report, the 388.xx drivers were having trouble with dForce, so it may also have trouble with Iray. I'm running 387.92 and they're doing fine.

  • I'm still unable to solve this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

My problem is with the Viewport ONLY. It used to work fine, but now when switching to Iray preview mode, it takes twice as long as it used to. With a new scene and only G3F loaded, it now takes over a minute to show the first iteration in the viewport. If I just render the scene with Texture mode in the viewport, it only takes 30 seconds to process the scene and show the first iteration in the Render Window.

I've tried everything I can think of to get everything back to default settings. I had upgraded from 4.9 to 4.10, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Studio 3 times, and the problem persists.

I have tried everything to get a "clean" install, uninstalling and also deleting every file I can find associated with Studio and cleaned the Registry. Even so, I notice that some of my draw settings are still there after reinstalling.

Thank you for your help in advance

    Regards

It would help if you provide us your log file.

    1. Launch DS
    2. Open log file, clear it and close it.
    3. Open your scene.
    4. Fire up viewport.
    5. Once it's rendering, stop it.
    6. Open log file again and post it here, as a file instead as a post.

Log file provides a ton of helpful information.

Yes, I have solved my problem.

I used Windows System Restore to roll back my computer to a point a few days before when it was working normally.

I don't know why a clean install would not solve it, perhaps it was a graphics card issue.

Also my laptop not build for this,so just to stay with it till i can afford 2×1080ti then my day will be better. Have a good day

Are you sure it's not switching to CPU rendering rather than GPU? That could cause something like this.

If it's already on GPU rendering, close all open render windows. Start a new render and wait for it to load everything into memory and start rendering to a new render window. Stop the render but leave the render window open. Minimise it and go to your DAZ and try switching the viewport back and forth between texture and iray to see if it's fast now while the render window is minimised and everything is held in memory.
